Might as well re-post this since it's in a more relevant thread... http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/Dai ... .html?assd

Jays ask for Drabek, Happ and Brown for Halladay
Well, here it is, the Blue Jays asking price for Roy Halladay: Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi has spoken to the Phillies within the past 24 hours and negotiations are underway in earnest, baseball sources tell the Inquirer. They want Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ and Dominic Brown.
That's what they've asked for. It remains to be seen how the Phils will respond to that. Keep in mind that in a negotiating process, offers evolve; this would not necessarily be the deal, if one is done. The Phils could counter with something entirely different.
When Charlie Manuel said yesterday “I prefer the horse,” the horse had a name: Halladay. As the Phillies and Blue Jays negotiate, figuring out who to include or not in a potential trade, there is a buzz around the clubhouse. Phillies players have pulled me aside, asking, “Hey, off the record, are we going to get Doc? What will we have to give up?
Manuel was asked today if he’d revised the thoughts he expressed about two weeks ago re: giving up Drabek. Here’s what he said a few hours ago: "I like Drabek and the basic reason I say that is, when I look at him, the style of pitcher that he is, I look at his upside. I look at his tools. I look at the kind of pitcher he is - I call him a drop and drive pitcher - and I think he's on the order of Nolan Ryan or Tom Seaver or Colon, guys like that with a real strong core, strong legs, get a big push off the rubber to produce power. It's a style that usually makes for a long career. That's what I see."
Two weeks ago, he said clearly: “For me, it would be tough to trade Drabek.” Today, compliments about the kid, no concrete plea to keep him around.
So which is it, Charlie--do you want the horse or the pony? You probably can’t have both. And if you can, you sure can’t have J.A. Happ anymore.

The Blue Jays and Phillies have made progress toward a deal that would send ace Roy Halladay to Philadelphia, major league sources told FOXSports.com.
Halladay has a no-trade clause, but sources said he would approve a trade to the defending World Series champions.
In conversations between the Phillies and Blue Jays, the sources said, Philadelphia officials have indicated a willingness to include one or more of their best prospects in the deal. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro hasn't ruled out any player in the talks, raising the possibility that right-hander Kyle Drabek might ultimately be included.
A deal is not imminent, as evidenced by the fact that Halladay made his start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, as scheduled. But there were strong indications Friday that Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi is talking more seriously with Philadelphia than any other team. Ricciardi declined comment when approached by reporters Friday afternoon.
The Dodgers and Rangers, who both have spoken with the Blue Jays about Halladay, didn't have any contact with Ricciardi on Friday. The Yankees initially expressed interest, but Ricciardi has yet to engage them in talks.
One source did indicate that the Angels, who are very involved in the market for pitching, have improved their offer. But it's doubtful that they could match a package from the Phillies if Amaro is willing to part with Drabek and at least one other premium player, such as left-hander J.A. Happ, or outfielders Dominic Brown or Michael Taylor.
There is a substantially smaller group of scouts in attendance for Halladay's start Friday at Rogers Centre than were in Toronto on Sunday, when he pitched a complete game against Boston. Many scouts in town during the week — including those representing the Red Sox and Dodgers — have left.
The Phillies, though, still have a representative at the game. And by next week, they may have a new ace.

Re: Doc to Philly almost done?
I don't see what the big deal about Drabek is. His stuff is just OK, he's not even dominant in the minors. Plus I've heard he's a bit of a headcase, but I don't know the details. Happ is also not that special to me either. He's a fly ball pitcher who doesn't strike guys out enough for a power pitcher.
In any trade with Philly, I want Michael Taylor, Dominic Brown, Jason Donald, and Carlos Carrasco at LEAST, plus one of Drabek/Happ/Knapp. Yes I'm serious, this is Roy Halladay we're talking about! The Indians got Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon in 2002. I expect nothing less for Doc.

I'm not a fan of Happ at all. I like Drabek a lot but him already having TJS is a little frightening. I would hope that Brown is involved in the deal as well. The Jays need some more positional prospects in their system.

Re: Doc to Philly almost done?
I'd prefer Taylor to Brown, and Knapp to Happ, and we damned well better get one of those two outfielders. If we're getting less than Drabek + Taylor or Brown + other value, I'm going to be rather disappointed.
Edit: and if we trade for Drabek, SHUT HIM DOWN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. Giving him 150+ innings a year removed from TJ would be demented...130 is even pushing it.

Re: Doc to Philly almost done?
Highlights from Doc's postgame 20min Q&A as per Bastian.
http://mlbastian.mlblogs.com/
http://mlbastian.mlblogs.com/
On if he believes he'll be a Blue Jay come August:
"Right now, yeah, I think I will be here. It's obviously a complicated situation and I think for that reason I've never felt like there's been a big press on being moved or wanting to be moved. ... If there was an urgency to be somewhere else, and an urgency for the team to have me somewhere else, I think it'd be different. I just don't get that feeling. For that reason, I think that at this point I feel like I'm going to be here."
Asked if he thinks the Jays need "major changes" to contend:
"Major changes? No. I think the hardest part is obviously the division we're in. The two, three, four teams that you're up against -- two of them being able to go out and get guys when they need them -- I think that's the hardest part. I don't think that there's major changes. I think at some point you have to catch lightning in a bottle and a lot of things have to go right -- kind of like what happened for Tampa last year. I think a lot of those pieces are in place. A lot of the future is there. It's just a matter of, when will that happen and when will it all come together? I personally don't believe that there's major changes. I think things are headed in the right direction."

As per Bastian's Twitter, the Phils have rejected the Happ, Drabek, Brown for Doc proposal.

This is ridiculous. Who the hell do the Phillies think they are? Happ is already 26 and has issues giving up HR and not enough Ks. Drabek is apparently a headcase and his numbers aren't anything special anyway. How are these guys "untouchable" in a trade for the best pitcher in baseball???
The Jays need offense if they're going to trade Rios and Rolen, like they're trying to. I want Michael Taylor, Dominic Brown, and Jason Donald at LEAST, plus 2 pitchers.

yeah. if they really have to, trade him next season.
His value drops by a LOT if they don't trade him now. If it's now the other team gets him for two playoff runs instead of one. If they're gonna do it, it has to be now.

Re: Doc to Philly almost done?
Thinking it over, I'm pretty glad Philly turned down that deal. I probably like Drabek more than most, but quite frankly there isn't enough in the Philly system to make a Halladay trade reasonable for Toronto. Everyone likes Brown and Donald of course, but there's no way Philly packages them with Drabek.
I'm starting to really like the idea of a deal with the Angels. Their guys are obviously older, but it fits better with the clubs mentality of competing within the next year or two. Aybar, Wood, Conger, and Walden for Halladay and Rolen would make me giddy. The looming problem is that Anaheim values their players like the Trailblazers.

Well obviously. The Dodgers probably wouldn't even do Doc for Kershaw straight up because he's young and under control for 6 years.
