Re: Solo?
What was the point of offering him the QO if we didn't plan on matching a 2 year deal for the minimum? It doesn't really matter because I wouldn't have wanted him back anyway.
This also reminds me of how pathetic BK's drafting record is...even if you ignore the players he passed on in 05 and 06. Two early 2nd round picks who have been out of the NBA for years, two early high second round picks that are barely hanging in the league on minimum contracts, and two NBA ready lottery picks who didn't even get their 4th year options picked up.

Now that's comedy.

I was more worried that Solomon Jones would accept the QO. If his moving on prompts us to sign Joe Smith or Drew Gooden then great. If not, then his minutes can be filled by most anyone as long as Woodson will put them on the court. Maybe I'm wrong about him, but I didn't see him as filling a need for the team.

Are you sure the Hawks ever even offered a QO? He signed a formal contract with the Pacers, not an offer sheet. The Hawks would be able to match any offer if he was extended a QO.

Isn't Solo restricted? Hawks don't want to match a two year league minimum for a Solo? Anyway, he won't be getting minutes with Woody coaching anyhow so I wish him the best with the Pacers. I think he will do his role well as the rebounder, shotblocker, hustler type and people will be surprise with his 15 footer.

Re: Solo?
Scoot, no personal knowledge, but it was reported by Sekou that he was offered a QO. That shocked a few people here on the board, myself included. We even joked that his agent would probably have him sign the first second he could. The report could have been wrong or the Hawks may have rescinded it like Memphis just did with Hakim Warrick and it just didn't get coverage. It also possible that the Hawks have said they won't match a multiple year deal.
While I'm obviously not the biggest Solomon fan, he did have good length and showed an occasional bright spot in his very limited action. I fully understand his desire to get a chance with another team. As he never got the PT or development here. It's a bit strange that the Pacers signed Josh McRoberts a few days ago and then reach an agreement with Solomon Jones. Guess you can't have too many backup bigs and considering the amount of money they have tied up in bad contracts you need to fill in with low dollar players. One thing they may want to watch for is how often Solomon throws up shots from just inside the 3 pt line in shoot arounds. He seemed to do that often for the Hawks and it always made me think that if you try that stuff in a game Woodson is going to bury you. When you need bigs on the block it doesn't help to have your backup big trying to channel Brad Miller in warm-ups.
Again, I didn't see him being a factor for the Hawks and hope we spend the money on someone who'll see the court more often.

Re: Solo?
No big loss to us. I am glad he is gone. Maybe now we can actually get a backup big who can actually play consistently. I was tired of waiting on Solo to progress. He showed very little progression over this stay here.

Re: Solo?
Yes someone like who?
Smith and Gooden will be off the market.
Dice is long gone. We had to get rid of Andersen.
Old vets like Ratliff or Magloire, also gone.
Do you still beleive that gooden and Smith will sign here/
Not me anymore but I would a surprise like that.
I am starting to question if we will be better than last year...

Re: Solo?
I did like his shotblocking and jumper, but his fouls were out of control, and after 3 years, I've just lost my patience with him. I wish him the best and hope we sign Joe Smith.

Re: Solo?
Pacers are now supposedly interested in Ryan Hollins. I guess the strategy is to sign a lot of cheap bigs and hope one actually blossoms.

Re: Solo?
Evil,
Sounds like Golden State currently with 5 PGs on their preseason roster. Okay, someone has to step up right?
I still marvel at how Sund got rid of Acie and Speedy in the same deal. That one rivals the Shell-head/AJ/Lue deal to Sac-town by our resident former 'basketball expert'.
