Jon Brockman: Initial impressions?

Obviously he can rebound, and I think he's a lot tougher than say Justin Williams. But, he'll have the same problem JW had, and that's being the target of fouls. From what I saw, his FT% was horrible, and you can't rely on him to score if you pass him the ball...it might be better for him to be trashman type of player (picking up the lose balls and scoring on tip ins).

I think Westphal is going to have to decide whther or not they can sacrifice points for rebounds. Unless, of course, he works on his scoring ability .

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't rebounds create extra offensive possessions?
I mean, he doesn't necessarily HAVE to be the one scoring all the time (aside from garbage putbacks), but isn't securing the ball supposed to be a good thing?
Varajao just got paid, and he doesn't do a LICK of scoring. Similar to Ben Wallace.

And haven't we always and forever been a sucky rebounding team as well? How many games have we lost over the years due to being woefully outrebounded on the regular?

Also, how many years have we been PRAYING for a big man who can play defense and rebound?
It appears we may finally have that type of player, yet you guys are STILL not happy "because he can't score".

And that is the major point here. Brockman is the type of offensive rebounder that LITERALLY gets his team extra possessions. This isn't Bonzi Wells going "Moses Malone" and taking 3 attempts to make one basket inside. Brockman rebounds like Dennis Rodman, where he goes and gets his teammates shots and he did it at such an unusual rate in college and especially summer league that the only proper comparison is Rodman.

The truth also is that Brockman can score. Unfortunately though his type of scoring will only appear somewhat dramatic or even noticeable if he's forcefed the ball in the post. I've seen the guy put points on many a legit big man in college. He needs a 15 foot spot up shot though, no doubt about that. Or rather I should say, he could really use a 15 foot jumper. He made a couple in summer league, there's potential there. Coachie has his work cut out for him!
