Plus fastball (96mph) and plus curveball is just 'OK'?

Sources: Phils Won't Meet Demands For Halladay

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4355464

"ESPN - The Phillies think the Blue Jays are asking for too much for pitcher Roy Halladay.

Toronto is asking for pitcher J.A. Happ, top pitching prospect Kyle Drabek and promising outfield prospect Dominic Brown, but Philadelphia isn't willing to give up that much.

The Jays formally proposed that package to the Phillies on Thursday, ESPN's Peter Gammons has confirmed.

"The ball is in their court," said Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said of the defending champions.

Two sources with baseball knowledge believe that the Phillies won't meet the demands of the Jays."

Some blog is now stating that Philly has offered Drabek+Brown+Carrasco+Donald.

We're apparently holding out on getting both Drabek and Happ which confuses the hell out of me as there is no way Happ should be a deal-breaker. I'm really confused and I'm hoping that this insistence on Happ isn't a ploy to appease to the "general fan" by being able to toot that they got a ML pitcher with a 7-1 record and sub 3 ERA instead of "just prospects."

One major league source told FOXSports.com on Saturday that Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi countered by asking for a four-player package: left-handed starter Joe Saunders, third baseman/shortstop Brandon Wood, shortstop Erick Aybar and a high-ceiling prospect from among the group of outfielder Peter Bourjos, left-hander Trevor Reckling and right-hander Sean O'Sullivan.

The Reds and Blue Jays have had discussions within the past several days about a trade that would send Toronto third baseman Scott Rolen to Cincinnati, major league sources told FOXSports.com on Saturday.

The sides are still trying to determine which players would head to Toronto in the deal, but the source said that third baseman Edwin Encarnacion would be included.

Why are the Reds trying to get Rolen? They think they have a shot at a playoff spot?

The thought of Philadelphia raping JP in this trade is frightening. This trade is going to go down as a stinker for the game's best pitcher.

I think Philly may be posturing to try to drive the price down. The fact that they're offering other options makes me think that if we wait they'll crack and deliver both Happ and Drabek. Personally I prefer this package because of 1) the uncertainty with young arms and 2) there are question marks around the Jays returning arms next year (never know whether they make it back and how long it takes).
