Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Tom, based on what you've heard, what do you think the likelihood is of us making a minimum type signing in the next week or two? With Miller just departing, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Sixers pick up a mediocre veteran type PG so they have something to spin to the fanbase along the lines of adding a veteran who can run the offense and assist with the development of our young players. Any rumblings on this? If so, any names?

I think that with the Miller situation resolved, there's no reason the Sixers won't look closer at some free agents. If guys would agree to Philly's terms, you could have a signing or two this week. But if a player or players are holding out for more than the vet minimum, there could be a bit of a waiting game.
I believe the Sixers are looking into PG such as Carlos Arroyo and Jason Hart, as well as big guys Chris Mihm, Adonal Foyle and others. As for 3s, Carney is a possibility, though he wants more than the minimum.

I find it a disgrace that they're not willing to spend money. Be cheap with Miller, okay but a guy like Carney/Watson deserve decent deals.
I mean Portland basically gave Miller the deal that was on the table before 2010 numbers were released. Stefanski's just being cheap.
"The check book is open". HAH, you ARE just playing us.

Based on what? Neither has shown much of anything on the NBA-level.

Based on being young players with upside. These kids didn't enter the NBA draft to collect 2nd round pennies.

Should we target Lamar Odom? 6'10, can play SF/PF, If we wanna go small I think he'd be a perfect guy along with Thad, Iggy and such.

This is such bs. First of all, CJ Watson went undrafted, and he's coming off a decent season, shooting 40% from 3 and doing a solid job coming off the bench in Golden State. I can understand him wanting to try and leverage that last season into a decent pay day, but if you ask me, we made a more than fair offer based on what he's accomplished thus far in his career. Anything more would be overpaying.
Carney was drafted in the middle of the 1st round and he's yet to consistently crack an NBA rotation in 3 years of play, and it's not like he was playing for contenders. Young players with upside don't deserve to be handed anything. That upside has yet to show that it's capable of being an asset on a nightly basis for an NBA team, so any team willing to pay him is taking a gamble. He's a far cry from the guy we all envisioned him being at this point in his career when we drafted him in the 1st round 3 years ago. I don't think he deserves to be compensated for falling short of expectations, especially by us.

I wouldn't mind Arroyo. He's streaky, but for the minimum, he's a guy that can run the offense and shoot a little. Not quite as high on Jason Hart.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
ES says there will be a FA signing... Well I don't consider filling out the back end of your roster with min guys as FA signings(because you are basically required to have a certain number of players on your roster.)
A FA signing implies actually adding a rotation player for something over the min. It remains to e see if the team is willing to do this. They are way under the tax this year. No real excuse not to add a decent player to a one year deal.

There are players that seek a 2 year deal or even a 3rd yr as a team-option, obviously Stefanski is unwilling to give that extra yr.

Sure there is an excuse, tk...
They're cheap.
This is not the first time that they have showed us that they are cheap...and given Comcast's current subscriber trends, it probably won't be the last.
With the straitjacket that the Brand and Iguodala contracts have placed on things, I would expect ZERO in the way of money being spent until the summer of 2011. Any improvement that we will see in this team over the next two years will have to come from improvements from the players on this roster, because other than vet minimum and rookie deals, this team ain't spending JACK.
Stefanski's "open checkbook" statment makes Lurie's "Gold Standard" comment look like constitutional law precedent.

Except Carney had an excellent season of 11 PPG as a solid shooting guard
I've been keeping up with the kid.

Funny, cuz all I see is a mid-first round pick who's averaged 6 ppg on 42% shooting in 3 seasons, but I'm sure you've studied the games he's played and segregated those in which he played SG, and did the math which allowed you to land on 11ppg. Right?

Yeah, people are way to hard on Lurie. he tries to financially smart, not cheap. He makes decisions with his head and not his heart- which is uncommon for an engaged owner (think Cuban as the opposite.)
People love Cuban but dislike Lurie. Never really got that. Cuban is a likable buffoon IMO.

Cuban is just a buffoon, period. Nothing likeable about him from what I've seen.

Janser's article (via hoopsworld) mentioned Flip Murry?

Flip can'r run the pt, so if they bring him in they will still have to bring in another vet PG.
Could they really expect their only PG;'s to be Lou, Jrue and Flip?
I like all those players, but none of them has really shown themselves to be an NBA PG, and this is an otherwise talented squad.

Yeah, it did but was I right or wasn't I right? Players don't just enter the FA Market for "1 year" deals. They might as well wait to see if they'll get a better offer elsewhere, though that's not likely.
Oklahoma City is waiting for David Lee to come out of his delusions of grandeur where he thinks he's the next Hakeem with that 15 million dollar asking price.
But other then that, what team has cap space?
Atlanta's not bringing Flip Murray back, not if they have some positive IQ. Jamal Crawful and Joe Johnson is BAD enough. Josh Smith? Good god, people don't know chemistry that Hawks team is gonna falter I promise you.
Stefanski just needs to be a reasonable man and understand that no body is gonna go to a team that gives them these 1-year offers. In part, it's also our the fan's fault. No, not for "not coming to the games". But for not telling them WHY we don't come to the games.
We don't come to the games because why invest in a mediocre basketball team? Why invest in a team that doesn't wanna win? Compared to a team like the Spurs who are willing to go significantly over the tax to win.
I keep hearing this bullcrap that we're not even close, this isn't true. We need to fill our bench
at certain positions and I think we'll be okay 50-win team.
What would it cost Stefanski and the team to pay a guy 2.3 million in 2011?(That is to say, giving Watson for example a 2nd year). It would cost them NOTHING. Similarly, Flip Murray would be a GREAT addition. Solid defender, scorer. He would essentially allow us to slip Lou into the starting lineup.
What would it cost Stefanski to give a reasonable offer to these players? NOTHING. Comcast is being cheap. We see the difference between the Sixers and the Phillies/Eagles.
Organizations that have shipped out the doe. The Phillies started to get the message sometime around 2006 when Pat Gillick came aboard.
If anything, there is a slim possibility they may meet the tax by a few cents. OMFG, watch out we're at New York Knick levels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
Not. Comcast's freaking cheap!
