Pacers interested in Ryan Hollins

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 5:03 pm

I dont get it. Maybe we are looking to move Muprhy or Foster by the trade deadline this year. Picking up hollins would give us Hibbert, Foster, Hollins, Murphy, Hansbrough, McRoberts, Jones. 7 bigs. Half he roster would be big men.

What are they doing? They must have a deal with Boston on the back burner.

It's either Daniels and Foster for a package of their bad players and a pick, or Daniels and someone else for that same package.

Maybe the Pacers WERE interested in Hollins...before they got Solomon Jones to sign? :dontknow:

Were, as in past tense, as in "are no longer."

At least, that seems like the most likely explanation to me (assuming there is any truth at all to the Pacers being interested in Hollins).

Either way, Dallas needs a big man since Gortat was matched, and they have Hollins as a restricted free agent.

Indy literally can't make an offer that Dallas couldn't match, unless we offered the full BAE which would be $2 million for up to 2 years.

Dallas supposedly just signed Gooden.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

When it was reported that we were going to sign a C, I said that Hollins was the only one on the market that I think has any real potential to contribute. I would like for us to pick him up and give him a chance if we can do it at a decent price.

With Dallas supposedly agreeing to terms with Drew Gooden, I don't see them being too worried about losing Hollins.

Mavs fan here: Dallas will match the offer for Hollins. Our backup center is Nathan Jawai, not Gooden. He will back up Dirk. Cuban will bring Hollins back. He has great energy and shotblocking off the bench.

Seems like I remember Hollins having a pretty good game against us season before last when he was still with Charlotte.

This might be good for the pacers. Hopefully they will trade Troy Murphy,"soft" Mike Dunleavy, and T.J. Ford.

Lineup maybe? Still wondering who would be our backup for my man D.Granger.

Ford/Watson/Price
Rush/D.Jones/Dunleavy
Granger/????/????
Murphy/Hansbrough/S.Jones
Hibbert/Foster/Hollins

Looks like he was just a plan B in case we didn't sign Solomon Jones.

Yeah, i do hope so.
But can Solomon Jones play C? It's the "position" that intrigues me a bit, we still need another legit center, IMO.
Another thing, we obviously need a legit sf. We can't wait til Dunleavy returns. And though both Rush and Dahntay Jones can play a little bit of sf, they're naturally sg's. And what can they do against bigger and stronger sf's?
McBob can play sf. He's quick for his size and atheltic. But.. are we really sold on McBob being the primary back-up at sf? Well, i'm not.. But it seems to me with the signing of Solomon Jones, that our frontcourt would look like this:

SF = Granger / McRoberts (?)
PF = Murphy / Hansbrough / S. Jones
C = Hibbert / Foster / (Hollins?)

Wells is discounting Hollins interest saying it only makes sense if we trade one of the other bigs.

I continue to think that there will be a backup 3 signed before too long and that one of the seven bigs we have now will be inactive.

I'm just thinking... it really could be possible that Larry's still interested in Hollins even if Solomon Jones is already on board..
I know for a fact that Hollins, like Foster, Dahntay Jones, and Hansbrough's a great energy guy. He's just a little immature and maybe unpolished, but just like Solomon Jones, this kid's got potential. He did well against the Spurs, and he could be better.
I've searched draftexpress for his profile, and there i saw that he used to compete in high-jumps.
A seven footer with legit jumping ability. Freaky.
I'm quite confused with the "potential" additions in the reports like Tony Allen, Giddens, Hollins because it would be impossible to add them all in unless we package a couple of guys wo go with Daniels. but i did realize amidst all these that we really need a young, legit back-up center because Foster's contract is ending in a couple of years.

Murphy and Hansbrough are the PF's.

Foster and Hibbert are the C's.

Both McRoberts and Solomon Jones will be the swing big men playing between both the PF and C spots in a Chris Andersen type role (undersized a bit, but high energy). Neither McRoberts or Jones will be the SF in almost any circumstance.

Any contract we could legally offer Ryan Hollins is likely an automatic match for the Dallas Mavericks, as essentially we can only offer the league minimum, much like we offered Solomon Jones.

Actually Scoot, technically there is a loophole that the Pacers can get away with.

if the Pacers offer Hollins a contract starting at 3 million per season, the Mavericks CAN'T match.

Why? The Mavs can only offer him a contract at 300% his previous years salary without using an exception. His salary in 2008-2009 was a little bit over 972,500 meaning the maximum extension they can offer him is a contract starting at just over of 2.917 million.

Now that's to the best of my knowledge, if I'm wrong explain to me where I'm wrong and I will leave it at peace.
