2010 Draft is switching to prime time

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Fri Jul 24, 2009 1:39 pm

Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday morning. Mother ****.

Is there a reason they have to mess with a good thing? I used to love sleeping in, grabbing a drink and a pizza and some chips and camping out on the couch all day Saturday and Sunday. I didn't like the late start this season, but this is so much worse.

Yeah I don't know if I am a huge fan of this either. But I guess everything is primetime now. I'm sure like anything I'll adjust. I was never a big NFL draft guy either, too slow paced unlike the NBA.

I wouldn't mind it if they did the First round on Friday but Thursday if (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Why not Friday first round, Saturday 2-4 and Sunday 5-7 or why not just leave it alone. I don't see this lasting past one year.

God I hope not. If we're in position to draft Berry it means we were one of the league's worst teams this season :-?

Jesus, DB. After this and missing keeping track on Buerhle's perfect game yesterday you better have been writing this post with a cyanide capsule in your mouth. :D

I totally agree with you here. Nothing better than wasting an entire Saturday/Sunday watching the draft. Eff the primetime stuff.

I've rebounded since this morning. I managed to get out of two separate four hour meetings and there's been some lively debate on the Bucks board. Going to hit 27 holes after work and this weekend is starting off quite nice :)

Damn, that is a hell of a feat to get out of both of those.

What kind of meetings were they?

I'm with you guys, nothing better than laying around all day Sat/Sun watching the draft with a slice of pizza in one hand and a beer in another while your buddy packs another bowl.

It was also a great way to get rid of the wife for two days. :D

One with a client that loves to monopolize our time and another for internet marketing.

I can't even tell you how irate I am with this decision. Draft Saturday was one of my favorite things in sports, and Goodell had to go and F it up. I haven't agreed with really anything that bum has done since becoming commissioner.

If I had to guess, it's because the coveted 21-39 advertising market is either out getting drunk or on date night with the wife on Fridays.

I think we all knew this was coming, but yea, it sucks.

ETA: Thursday's is the big TV night. As pointed out, their biggest market is out of the house on Friday nights. I suppose they could try to get people into bars, but eh...

I thought it was great when they cut the time each team got to make the picks, but that was where it should have stopped. I can't imagine the reasoning behind this. I truly don't think many more people are going to watch it now that it's in primetime. The people who are actually interested in watching the draft are going to do so, it's not like this is going to pick up a lot of viewers and increase exposure. I'd think, if anything, this would have a negative impact on fan reaction to the draft.

I'm sure it's entirely due to advertising dollars. They can charge more for prime time TV time slots.

Draft weekend was my favorite of the year. I'm very disappointed in this change.

No kidding. The media seems to praise him, but everything I've seen him do has either just been dumb or done with a giant stick up his ass.

Yea, I get it's primetime but you are competing with the best shows. This is an event, not a show. It was successful because people would spend all day watching it and hanging out with the guys. Now you have to plan 3 different late nights around the NFL. Not going to work.
