July,26th ,Chengdu,the state capital of Sichuan where 12,000 people died
from the most davastaing earthquake in the past 50 years in china.
Bad weather, it was raining heavilly all day, Kobe just finished first 5th
stop in shanghai, supposed to arrive in Chengdu at 11:30am local time ,
his sechedule was to have a rest in htel,go to a nike ID store,meet his
fans at a local university stadiom and call it a day. The previous day ,
fans in shanghai were too crazy and some of them got themselves hurt,
nike had to change their original pln, went directly from airport to the
Nike store, what they didn’t expect the shopping plaza where the store
located were already packet by thousands of kobe fans in the heavy
rain. They didn’t have the ticket to go to the stadium to see kobe(only
1000 ticket were hand out by NIKE), All they want to do is to have a
chance to see kobe. Before kobe arrived, fans (not just local people. A
lot of them from other states of china by plane or by train for a one day
stay in Chengdu just want to see or feel kobe was so near to them) For
security reason, kobe was guided to that store through special tunnel,
only a handful of people saw kobe’s car, and kobe was not allowed to
come out to greet the fans in case fans got crazy in a bad weather day)
Kobe arrived at the hotel at 1pm local time, after one hour of media
session, ,kobe need to go to the university stadium to meet his fans.
What he didn’t know, maybe he will never know, thousand of fans who
can’t get the ticket gathered outside of the stadium in the rain to feel his presence.
They can only hear the loud cheers from the stadium to guess what were
happening inside, they constsntly chant ‘ kobe’,’MVP’ ,even couldn’t see
kobe in person, they were still so involved and happy. After the meet the
fan session, lots of them were running after the car they thought kobe
was in and crying and hope the time can freeze for eternity. Asked were
they disappoined going after kobe in the heavy rain all day without
actually seeing kobe in person. what they said really touched me, ‘ we
are happy and blessed kobe is so near to us, to see so many kobe fans
from the country to cheer for kobe made my day. This is trully a life time
experince money can never buy’
Now,just hope they didn’t catch cold when back home and have sweet
dream
