Rumor: Powe To Cleveland?

Post#1 » by BillessuR6 » Mon Jul 27, 2009 11:58 am

I'm told by another source that Leon Powe is considering an offer from Cleveland.

Apparently Dallas has an offer to him as well, but with Drew Gooden signing he might be leaning towards taking the Cavs offer.

He still has not received an offer from Boston.

Powe on cavs team would make me sick! Just resign Leon, please. If we have roster spots for guys like Pruitt, Giddens, Walker, POB last season then we should have one for Powe...I don`t care if he comes back after the allstar break he is the kind of role player every team needs...

I am still mad we didn`t offer him the QO...

How effective is Powe going to be for Cleveland? Not effective at all IMO. Let them have him.

Uh, you might want to ask Phil Jackson how 'effective' this guy can be.

I'd hate to see Leon go, but we can't hold onto to everyone. I 'd like to see Powe have continued success as a player, but... like on the west coast somewhere, not with a EC nemesis.

Good move from a negotiating standpoint for him though.

Yeah, but he was healthy then. He's not now.

I don't really care that Powe's going to Cleveland. It actually makes me happy because it makes it more likely Joe Smith is leaving. I'd much rather have Joe Smith on the team.

Tough.

Thing is, I just don't think Leon is going to be that effective this year. This is his 3rd major knee surgery. He might be able to play by the ASB but will he actually be 100%? unlikely.

I'd love to have Leon back for sentimental reasons but we don't have a roster spot. Maybe if we sign and trade for Daniels...

Coming off his 3rd ACL injury don't think Powe can help anybody next season. If Cavs want immediate help they should resign Joe Smith but he apparently wants a 3 year deal.

I'm upset that Cle made an offer to him despite that he won't play AT ALL this year :nonono:

Due to the severity of his injuries it's highly likely that he'll get injured again. Would you purchase a broken car? No. So why make an offer for Lemon Leon?

At all? I understood he could be back early 2010.

Do we want to face Leon with yet another chip on his shoulder in the playoffs? The guy's got a thing for making comebacks and proving doubters wrong.

The Wiretap reports that he won't be available to play until AFTER the 09-10 season. Best case scenario is he comes back by ASG, but will he be 100%? Doubt it. He'll have to get his wind back during the playoffs which doesn't fair well for players coming off of previous injuries/surgeries.

They'll probably look to give him a cheap 2 year deal hoping that he'll turn into a bargain next season. Nothing to be concerned about for this season though.

I'm fine with Powe leaving, as long he goes to a place where he can get the minutes to show off his game and not to a rival. Neither of those are going for me in this situation.

Bummer. I was hoping we could snag him if we had an open roster space when he was healthy, or drop a vet min big guy that DA may sign (Swift).

If Leon can get a contract somewhere I am happy for him. It sucks that is doesn't look like it will be here but it is also a good business decision even if it's slightly cold-blooded. Big Leon fan here... even bigger fan of maximizing our chances for 18 > sentimentality.

I'll go a bit further and say if we didn't have a solid chance at a banner they'd probably show leon some love and give him a cheap 2 year contract, just a guess on that. But it's not every season you get to roll out a real contender, got to everything possible to make that happen.

I absolutely love Leon. He's a true good guy and he is waht Celtic Pride is all about. Anyone who plays on a torn ACL for 3 minutes plus in a playoff game will always be OK in my book.

That being said, you have to let him walk. At the earliest he won't be back until February. So you're going to pay him 1 year salary for 2 months of reg season + playoffs? Nah, you can't do that. It's not smart business for a team over the luxury tax.

It will be disgusting seeing him in Clev, but in the end, basketball wise, it's asbolutely the right decision.
Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:

"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”
