I would really be surprised if Cleveland actually offered him a contract considering how far they are already over the luxury tax and the fact they are trying to win now. Maybe it's just a ploy by his agent to get the C's to offer some guaranteed money?

Whether he would help Cleveland next season is besides the point, and those who are saying he wouldn't help the Cavs next season miss that point.

When we wanted Rasheed, we showed loyalty (I don't know if loyalty is the best word choice, but you know what I am saying) by making sending our stars and management out to woo him.

Giving Powe a guaranteed deal for a year would be the equivalent - a little token saying, hey, we appreciate you, and we want you back here when you are healthy again.

Considering a.) Powe will be a nice value when healthy again (or at the very least a tradeable asset), and b.) he has helped us win a championship and been a valuable part of our locker room over the past few seasons, and exemplifies what we want our players to be in respects....not showing loyalty to him - regardless of future considerations - would be at least a semi-classless move that would set a bad example that other free agents could easily note.

I would hope and have hoped that our front office is allowing Powe to shop himself around, but have every intention of bringing him back. While initially I would understand we want roster spot flexibility for the time being, its not like we don't have open roster spots, and I would hope one of our fringe guys would get cut loose before we let Powe sign with the Cavs.

Let's count roster spots:

Perk/Sheed
KG/two other bigs who can suit up
Pierce/Daniels
Allen/House
Rondo/some other PG

+ Giddens/Walker

That's 13 for sure.

Leon is competing for one of two other slots. This assumes Tony is traded to get Daniels.

We don't necessarily need a third PG who can play, since Daniels can fill in. And we don't necessarily need a sixth healthy big. And we don't necessarily need yet another wing, if Giddens and/or Walker can contribute from deep pine. So there might be room for him yet ...

Paying Powe right now would be foolish. I get flamed for saying we should get Posey back because we don't want to lock up money in the long term (and I'm off that horse now that we are getting MD) but throwing money away in the short term doesn't make any sense either. Powe has been injured a lot, doesn't have high starter potential and is too short for his position. I like the guy but that is a lot to go against someone you would hope can be back a year from now. We can get someone as good as Powe at his best for the MLE, LLE or possibly vet min at almost any point.

I think he will make a comeback. He has yet to get big payday and he likely has a large poor family. To that effect he will probably but his body through hell to come back. Long term I don't see him holding up though.

Lets also question the legitamacy of the CLE offer. Really? They really want to spend on him? Haven't they been linked to just about every player? C'mon now. He probably will still be a FA by ASB and if he is healthy then we can take him back.

i only liked KG and P2 more than my boy LEON. I say Leon, because everytime he made an amazing hoop I would just yell LEON. My 2 year old started doing it this past winter.

I feel for Leon personally and think I would hope if he is only looking at a non guaranteed minimum that Boston would step in and do that for the 15th spot, but that is just being a fan. His time table has moved from basketball activity in DEC to FEB. which is basically the last possible moment till you go just say see you next year. He would be better served spending the whole season getting right and preparing for next summer not trying to salvage this season and either do his knee harm or ruin his chances of catching around the league by looking like he lost it.

I think that Ainge's binky has screwed the chances of everyone else's binky getting some loyalty love. He has been after Robert "Bill Walton II" Swift since 2004. He is a legit 7' center and 2 years younger than Leon. His development while stalled by injuries is not totally unlike Perk at this point in that this is the year he should start to open eyes. I would expect that unless he totally sucks which, he doesn't, he will get to be Patrick O'Bryant this season.

If leon was healthy enough to play we would sign him, he is docs absolute favorite. The fact that we have not means there are some serious serious problems with him physically in the opinions of our doctors, we we trade for daniels and have some open roster sports i wouldnt mind singing him and holding him for the season to see how he does. However if there is no S and T we are short on roster spots and cant carry him and a real backup for KG and Sheed

''A Celtics blog put out the rumor that the Cavs might have made an offer to Celtics power forward Leon Powe. That's not true, according to an NBA source.

However, there might be some interest on both sides. Powe is coming off knee surgery and he might not be able to play until February.

He's not really a stretch "4." He's a pound-the-boards type of power forward, who has given the Cavs absolute fits over the years.''

im pretty sure im as big a fan of leon powe as anyone, as longtimefan can attest from when he was traded here, i dont think many people had nearly as much faith in him as we did having followed him as a player before he was a Celtic. i have followed leon powe since he was profiled in SLAM back in his high school years.

that being said, the dude has suffered his third major acl injury. the Cs know as much about his condition as anyone, probably more, and i think if they werent concerned he wouldve been made an offer. though powe is the likeliest guy in the world to make it back from where he is now, each one of these injuries makes it increasingly unlikely he can continue his career.

i would love to see him make it back in green, but im not sure its possible. his career is potentially(probably?) over and that seems to have been glossed over.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2nd favorite player in the entire NBA cannot go to my most hated team in the NBA

And if he does sign with Cleveland, I guarantee it'll come back to haunt us and he'll torch us for 15/10 minimum every time we play him, get our bigs in foul trouble and make Ainge regret letting him go.

WE NEED TO RE-SIGN HIM NOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The part that people are ignoring is this: Ainge found him as a steal in the second round. Leon has made Ainge look great and is a phenomenal human being. The fact that Danny was ready to move in another direction shows you just how bad his knee was. Danny talks to the doctors and we don't.

I don't think the Cavs signing a broke down Powe hurts the Celtics bench.

don't fret.. If you can't keep Powe.

You can go after the smaller version of him.. Joey Graham. But it seems like Powe is like a glue guy for your team.

Anyways I like Powe,...he's a good fit on your team.
Prediction
Spurs in 7. Parker MVP. Lebron 6-17fg, 18pt, 8reb, 5 asst in game 7 LOSS.

Powe was great in his time here and I'll always have a soft spot for him..
But if he goes to Cleveland he's the enemy, a modern day Benedict Arnold.
