^ Even if the Jays were to add Bay and a closer, I don't think that the Jays are close to being contenders. The Jays are much further from legitimately competing than most fans believe.

The only thing I blame Beeston for is not firing JP when he took over. He has let him keep making important decisions (at least play an major role in them), when it clear he's not good enough to be making them. I would much rather they fire JP ASAP and let LaCava run things in the interim. It would be the equivalence of letting JFJ or Babcock hang onto their job and making important trades while they searched for a new team president.

I started to write a big essay about the whole J.P. situation and the Halladay/Bosh comparison, but I'm so frustrated with the whole thing I don't really know how to put it into words.

J.P. should have been gone long, long ago - period. If not for the poor job he has done, then for the goodwill that would be won from the vast majority of fans who want him gone, and for the goodwill from other GMs, players, and media who have to be sick of this guy spouting off. But we can't blame J.P. for one of the biggest problems with the team, which is that he hasn't been fired! That has to lie solely with ownership.

It's the owners who have to wake up - I really think the Jays are on the verge of losing a significant chunk of their remaining fan base. People (like me) are simply fed up with the same old story, year after year. If they can't manage a seemingly obvious thing like replacing an ineffective, lame-duck GM, how are they supposed to oversee building a contender?

Sorry if this is just a rant, but the sooner J.P. is gone, the sooner we can move on with getting this team back to where it supposed to be. It's only one of many things that need to happen, but it's the easiest to do and the most obvious and the fact it hasn't happened makes me seriously question the competence of the Jays ownership when it comes to running a baseball team. No statistical analysis of J.P.'s drafting, acquisitions, etc. is going to convince me this guy hasn't been a sub-par GM, because all I know is that the Jays have not won with him, and the organization's reputation amongst fans and people in baseball has gone down significantly during his tenure.
