OT: Dallas

Post#1 » by Cyclical » Sun Jul 26, 2009 8:19 am

Normally I wouldn't care but it's the off-season and there are no news on the C's front, so...
Mark Cuban has had quite a summer. Just wanted to get a read on what people think their chances in the West are. Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki and now Drew Gooden, with a decent bench. Pretty potent lineup if healthy. Can they possible get a 2-4 seed and make some noise this year? Lakers and Spurs seem to be the strongest but between Denver and Utah's inconsistencies, Houston's injuries and the mediocre rest of the best they may just have a strong season. Thoughts?

Honestly I don't like their defense at the 4/5

Dirk is a liability against the likes of Duncan,KG

and is generally just too soft in the paint so it gives a lot room for the other team.

I hope Gooden isn't starting at Center.

Worried about their defense.

They should be pretty good, challenge for the #3; but there is a big gulf between LA/SA and the rest.

They'd be the #3 solidly if they'd gotten Gortat and might really have contended; but they should be right there with Denver.

Yep, they're still soft like a 100 pound baby's ass. Plus Kidd is old as sh#t too. He was born before people even sh#ted.

Cmon now cfan, Jason Kidd is still a very good point guard.

I don't think gooden will do any good for Dallas team , maybe 20 percent upgraded but not that much tho.

they made some good additions and will have a lot of offensive potential but they have horrid defense in the frontcourt and average rebounding to go along with it. with that being said i still think they have a legitimate chance of getting to the 4 or 5 seed in the west; as far as the playoffs are concerned, i dont see them getting passed the second round.

If they had gotten Gortat instead of Gooden I'd be more optimistic about Dallas for next season, but as of now they're still below Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets. I could see them passing up Portland, but those two should be about even.

As of right now though the West is a 3 horse race (Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets), with everyone else in their rearview mirrors.

He's decent, but he's going to have problems with Billups, Parker, C.Paul and Deron Williams in the west.

Phoenix anyone? Offense wins game, defense wins championships. Dallas will be in the playoffs, but they'll be lucky to get out of the first round, IMO.

Dallas has been grasping for straws for awhile now. Theyve clearly been in dire need of a radical move ever since they got bounced in the 1st round by the warriors and while the Kidd trade was definitely radical it was in the wrong direction.

Dallas is like the basketball-equivalent of the Yankees of the recent past... they seem to be making moves based on where they were 4-5 years ago rather than where theyre at now.

Dallas will be a good team this year but I dont see them as a contender. I think Cuban's due for another bitch slap of reality this season, not sure if itll be enough to wake him from his wet dream with Dirk though.
