Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
What I dont get is why NO is taking on more longterm salary for another undersized big when theyre supposedly in all this financial trouble.
When trading CP3 becomes even a semi-legitimate discussion behind closed doors something is seriously messed up.
Not sure how I feel about a West/Okafor frontcourt either.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
Doesn`t make much sense for both team. I guess NO isn`t doing that bad after all. I think Okafor is a better player and Chandler benefited greatly from playing with CP. I like the deal for NO although Okafor`s contract really is tough to swallow...

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
Okafur is 6'10" he doesn't have great size as a Center but he isn't 6'8" or anything. He is a solid NBA big man if not a superstar. Teaming with West would eliminate him having to handle the scoring load.
What a joke for CHA? I can't even think of anything NO can add to make this appealing.

I hate seeing other teams pick up talent on the cheap. I know it in no way affects us as I can't see a NO/BOS finals but still. I hope we can get some young talent when we are ready to trade our bigger contracts.

If this is really a one for one deal then Isiah Thomas is about to get a **** reprieve.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
very odd considering the trouble NO was apparently in money wise... taking on okafor and all that cash, he is however the better player and should lift again from playing with CP3
meanwhile chandler is a very larry brown type player... that place is just too obvious for iverson not to go to now IMO

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
NOH actually cuts $1 million a season the next 2 years with Okafor and he's the better player. Adding the last 3 years of the contract doesn't hurt them right now and they're probably projecting a better economic forecast in 2011-12 than in 2008-09.
The deal makes little sense for Charlotte. If they want to simply shed salary go the route of the Clippers (Camby) or OKC (cap space).

Okafor and West is gonna be a good front court. I guess Charlotte wants to shed long term salary, because they're losing the better player in the trade.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
I don't think we've seen the best of Okafor. Well, we haven't seen much at all from Okafor because his crap team is never on TV. But he's a very good player.
The only reason Chandler can be mentioned in the same breath as Okafor is because he played with CP3 and got to dunk 3 lobs a game. Okafor can do that. He's a better defender then Chandler and probably equal a rebounder.
What's odd is that nobody thought NO was in buying mode and apparently they were. I think it could be a good deal for them.

To me, it's Charlotte that continues to do these mind boggling moves.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
While I think that NO would like to get under the Lux Tax like everyone else, all of the cost cutting came up because they seemed to be trying to give Chandler away. But when he failed the physical with OKC and got the thumbs down from the PHX medical staff (that is very well respected) it should have been apparent to everyone that the guys ankles are toast.
Sadly I think that is what this deal is about. The Cats can move out Okafor's contract take back Tyson who will likely play a half dozen games and then be disabled and insurance will cover the contract

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
This has got to be a cost cutting move for Charlotte, because Okafor is a much better player. Really believe that if Emeka got some good coaching, say under Clifford Ray here, he could be a 20/12 player and a defensive force. He at least tries to get better in the post, but just seems so misguided. He's bigger for the position than Chandler, at least in terms of standing reach, stronger to back it up, and just about as athletic. I have a feeling he's going to really blossom playing with CP3.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
Yeah, I've no idea why New Orleans would want to consummate this trade, and for Okafor. His contract is longterm. I was of the understanding that the Hornets wanted to reduce team salary. I reckon not or they really want to trade Chandler. If I'm Charlotte, I wonder if Paul might have made Chandler look better than he is. But not saying he isn't a good starting center.
I like it from the Bobcats' perspective and assume that they're including a first or second round pick to the Hornets in addition for them to take back Okafor's contract. If not, then I really dislike this trade for New Orleans.

Perk/Scal/TA for Okafor works in the checker.

Are you kidding they just go nothing for their best player? It isn't a contest for who has the shortest contract. They are just cutting salary to sell the team what is there to like? Even healthy Chandler is not close to as good as Okafor and for the next two years makes more money.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
Yeah I don't get bonsai's post either.
Okafor makes like $11-12M a year. There's a lot of bums making $11M+ a year, and he ain't one of them. He's only 6'9" or 6'10", but he can play either center or power forward. He's got post-up moves and is very strong defensively and on the boards.
Sully, I think you nailed it before as to why this is a surprise: NO wasn't trying to unload salary, they were trying to unload Chandler. For them to get a quality player for him is a bonus.

NO wasn't shedding salary anyway. This gives them a good chacne to win right now.

Re: Weird CHA/NOH Trade
No idea why CHA did this. If they want to shed salary, they can easily get expiring contract. And they have too much confidence to Chandler's health if they want to find replacement of Oakfor.
