LeBron & extension

Post#1 » by m23uza1hem36 » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:18 am

Cavaliers F LeBron James considering up to three year extension with team.

Per ESPN ticker, can't find a link to prove it at 4 am at the moment, so I wouldn't take it offensively if a mod were to lock this.

If he is considering an extension then I have all faith that he will definitely resign with us next year. I would actually prefer for him to wait cuz then we can sign him for 6 years. So I know he is staying so mine as well wrap him up for as long as possible.

I get what Lebron might be thinking...
Everyone is geared up for 2010 and that epic FA class. This Cleveland team is good enough to win titles, or at least challenge seriously for it, in 2010 and perhaps 2011. I can sign a short extension that takes me to the following summer, where I can cherry pick easier which team presents me teh best chance to win. You know, let Wade, Bosh, et al sign where they may, and then I can choose who I want to join and what situation works best.

Brilliant move if he does it IMO. The max money will always be there.

I still say that the only way that LeBron signs an extension this year is if they know that he'd make more signing this year than he would signing next year.

Yup. Lebron is no fool. He knows what could happen to the cap in the next couple years.

Lebron would be an idiot to resign at this point. He signed the short contract for the flexibility and then doesn't test the free agent market. It makes more sense to sign the extension earlier to reinforce the idea that you will be in a city long term. If Lebron wasn't testing the market he would sign the extension. I would be surprised if he left the Cavs, but I'm not buying into this talk about Lebron signing this summer.

It really isn't about testing the market. LeBron was getting the max no matter what. What LeBron would be testing is the CBA and that doesn't get renegotiated until next off season.

Is there any reason why he'd want to leave home? My guess is Miami is the only place he'd rather be.
then of course there's Chicago and New York. But, why would he leave home?

^^ Cause it's "Cleveland" and he wants to go to a bigger market team. . . Why else?

So how long has it been since he could have signed his extension?

Good luck in NY lebron

That's warning number 2, the next one likely will earn you a banning but at the very least a suspension.
