Why Trading Battier *Could* Make Sense

I'd had most of these thoughts myself.
The main two points there would be
- We aren't making much noise for the next 2 years
- We add youth and talent for cheap

While I don't like giving up Battier myself, I'm not convinced it's not the right move given the injury situation, our team's ages, contract lengths, and probably some other variables that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Discuss. (I'll weigh in more, later)

His trade value has never been higher. That helps. But if Battier got traded, there'd better be some real assets coming back, in return.

Alt-Focus: What realistic Battier trades would you find satisfactory?

If the Rockets do trade Battier, it will be more of a favor to Battier. Since he is a glue guy and we have nothing to glue together right now, I think he would appreciate being traded to a team that will go far in the playoffs... I would guess to an Eastern playoff ready team if any.

I think I'd be happy with Rudy Gay. With Head gone, we've lost a lot of jokes on the team.

I would do it for this http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5212605
Rudy, Bayless, Outlaw then we could deal Lowery for another 4/5

The Blazers would never do wadero's trade, they give up too much.

Honestly, the only one of their "young" players that interests me enough to consider moving Battier is Fernandez. If I were GM, he'd be required in order for me to make that trade.

I could see: Rudy + Outlaw (filler, could be cut as I don't particularly like him if Portland wants him back)

or

UPGRADE!
Scola/Landry + Battier + (1st?) for LMA and Outlaw

Who I really DON'T want is any of Blake/Webster as main pieces in a deal. Webster is WAY overpaid (4 more years of MLE!?) and Blake is just a significantly worse, higher paid, far less interesting Aaron Brooks.

If not, I'd definitely be willing to hold onto him to get him to teach Ariza tricks and to have him as part of the team when we are back in the running in the 2010-2011 season.

No reason we can't roll with

Brooks/Lowry
Wade/Budinger
Battier/Ariza
Scola/Landry
Yao/Andersen

right? :)

At one point last year Battier DID say that he'd like to retire in Detroit. Only problem there is they have this one guy named Tayshawn Prince....

Battier for Linus Kleiza S&T?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Trade him to the Spurs. They need a replacement for Bruce Bowen.

Who would we want from their aging team?

The replacement for Bowen was / is Ime Udoka. Don't overlook him; he's a good defender.

Who cares what they give us. He would be our gift to them so they can destroy LA.

Battier is so underrated and undervalued by most GM's. So getting something of value for him is difficult. Since he does the little things that don't go in the stat sheet. He defended kobe better than anyone in the playoffs.

I'm not against any ideas for trading him, but only if we get a good trade offer. Not something thats one sided, because he's so undervalued.

FYI,Bayless is truly wretched as an NBA PG. No court vision, makes up his mind early and doesn't adapt to the defense, poor passing and shows a troubling defensive problem in anyone attacking him head on blows by him.

As to the original question,
Battier gets traded if...
1)The Rockets are just awful this season and none of the kids develope. He gets moved for a good prospect or a First.
2)The Rockets are okay,w/McGrady playing well and the young guys developing nicely, but the team is constantly getting killed by other teams bigs. He gets moved for a good back-up big.

Otherwise his value as a team leader, and in event Rox makes Playoffs, defense against Kobe, and his community/PR work keeps him on team til next off-season. Then when team knows what Yao's status will be will determine if he's traded or not.

The thing about battier is that he's an awesome defender and role player, who will fit right in with any contender team. But he's kind of worthless to teams that aren't contenders or are rebuilding.

I think theres a very good chance that Battier is moved this upcoming season.

As long as we get young (talented) prospect and expiring contract back, i'm ok with any trade.

Battier is gone and I think tisbee probably is on track with his notion that the Rockets will indeed go after that 2011 free agent class that includes Kevin Durant. With that being the likely case and with Ariza brought in as the new stopper I wouldn't be surprised if Battier was traded. One thing though...I hope its not until the trade deadline b/c he could teach Ariza a lot of things about being a great defender which will only make him better.

Did you catch the transformers question?
Q: "Optimus Prime or Megatron?"
A: "Starscream"

Not surprising that Kobe identifies with the most selfish decepticon; the one who was eager to axe Megatron and usurp power.
