Boozer

Post#1 » by lurkingobeiscity » Tue Jul 21, 2009 3:00 am

We've talked about Boozer a little bit in other threads but after looking at the numbers again we could possibly steal Boozer and still have enough money for a max player in 2010. We would need to ship Najera somewhere else through some random trade but if we were able to do that, we'd be able to extend Boozer starting at 14 million(extension negotiated before trade).

The other pieces that would need to move so the Nets can afford that extension and another max player would have to be Yi and the 2010 1st. Those would be the pieces to convince the Jazz to do the trade.

Trades:

1.==========================
Yi, Dooling, Hayes, Boone*, Hassell, 2010 lottery protected 1st

for

Boozer, Harpring
*Boone would be shipped to a team like Houston for their TPE

Utah saves $5,652,700 (double that with the lux tax in mind).

2.==========================
Yi, Dooling, Hayes, Simmons, 2010 lottery protected 1st

for

Boozer, Harpring, Korver

*Dooling or Hayes could be sent to a 3rd team with a TE if Utah prefers. (Or something like a Dooling/Buckner (partially guaranteed) swap with Dallas)

Utah saves $4,099,669 (double that with the lux tax in mind).

In basketball terms I think Yi for another two years is better for the Jazz's situation than a Tyrus Thomas who will need an extension at the end of the year. Add in a pick (protected so if Boozer gets injured and the Nets suck, they aren't giving up a top 3 pick) and solid veteran players.... I think the Jazz would go for this deal.

Teams are trying to lowball them. This is still far below normal value for Boozer but IMO it would be well above the value other teams appear to be offering. I hope no one has a problem giving up Yi, mid 1st and Dooling for a 28 year old Boozer and a better chance at a 2010 FA.

The Nets would still have the Dallas pick and the GSW pick to move Najera with.

I am not 100% certain the Jazz would want Yi to tell you the truth. Now, I may be in the minority here, but they have a very similar player in Kosta Koufos who I actually think could have a very good year if they get Boozer out of the way. He's a 7-footer who has 3pt range that also played well when he got ample playing time. I think they're working him to potentially take over the 5 spot when Okur is done with this extension since their offense can work well for a perimeter oriented big man.

I just think they already have their "Yi" so they wouldn't be that interested.

But, it's not a bad idea in theory if you took Koufos out of the equation.

I stopped reading when I saw Yi in the deal.
Management is absolutely, without question, most definitely, NOT going to trade Yi unless there is someone along the lines of CP3, Lebron, Wade, Roy, etc. coming back this way.
Hey, I would include him in a lot of deals, but let's be a little realistic here.

^That's realistic? There is no rule against trading Yi. His biggest plus is the supposed money he makes for the franchise, but I would bet that Boozer makes the team easily more marketable, increases ticket sales, and likely gets the Nets to the playoffs where they would make even more money.

I don't think management is so married to Yi that they wouldn't trade him for an all-star PF.

No..

Considering Yi is the best chinese player in the NBA(Since yao is out for a while), he's EASILY more marketable than Boozer.

Yes, HE is. The team isn't getting in on his jersey sales or his shoe deal. Yi isn't selling tickets.

The Nets went to China to sell some advertising to Chinese companies:
http://www.netsdaily.com/?p=8031

That is the kind of thing that Yi offers the team. You don't think the Nets could recoup that money (plus more) by increasing ticket sales and merchandise revenue with a winning team? If they make the playoffs that would add playoff game revenue as well.

Furthermore, you are overestimating the marketability of Yi himself. In 07-08 Yao Ming was only the 10th highest selling jersey in China. People pay for wins.

^^ Do you know how many Chinese people there are in the NY/NJ area. Have you ever been to a Nets game half the people there are Chinese. I think Yi does help ticket sales alot. The idea of getting Boozer and still having room for one more max guy (Lebron) who I'd assume would be the target. If I recall didn't Boozer screw the Cavs over by saying he would sign and then bounce on them and Lebron. You think Lebron doesn't remember that. Boozer just puts us back into the 6th seed again and a second round exit. He is past his prime and we have a young up and coming team i'll pass on giving a guy 14 mil with his injured past. I think we should stand pat and try and move Najera even if we lose the GSW pick just so we can get out of that terrible contract. We're gonna suck this year no doubt but we're gonna run and be exciting to watch. Let the young guys develop and try to land our PF in the draft next year like Favors or Davis and continue to strengthen our young core and hope Lebron next year or Melo the year after or Durant the year after that would like to be that missing piece to our championship run.

Sorry Lurk, I dont know why you would want to pay Boozer $14 million.

It has been said many times that if you are going after LEBRON, You might be able to convince Bosh to come along too. So if that is the case, why would I offer Boozer $14m?

I think you have a major problem with reading comprehension.
I wasn't saying Yi could be a centerpiece for a guy like that, or even like any of those specifi players or players of their caliber are available, I was making the point Yi is going nowhere unless a superstar is coming back and he was part of the deal, even if he was just a throw in. You know, making the point he won't be shipped out in any deals for a player like Boozer.
Check NetsForce sig...

Fifteen teams suffered declines in gate receipts last season, the worst being the New Jersey Nets, whose ticket revenue declined $11.4 million, a 29 percent drop from 2007-08.

http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com/2009/07/while-nets-attendance-went-down-3-last.html

Do you still think Yi makes the Nets more money than a playoff team?

Boozer also played with Lebron on team USA. I think they've gotten over Boozer leaving Cleveland (which is what Lebron would be doing anyway).

Boozer is turning 28 in November and he is in no way past his prime.

I set aside 14 million to see if the Nets could still manage to sign a max free agent with the rest of the money. I figured 14 mil would be on the very high end for Boozer. I have no idea what he'll actually get.

Getting Bosh and Lebron is not possible..... except maybe if we trade a resigned Boozer and a couple other things for a Bosh that wants to leave......

Again, if people would listen to my post, why would they want Yi when they have Kosta Koufos? I'd rather have Yi AND be a playoff team...however, I'm not willing at this moment to give Boozer the extension he's looking for, but that's just a personal opinion of mine.

Agreed, especially when the cap is volatile enough that we don't know for sure that you can afford Boozer and a max-level FA under the cap next summer.

What about
Alston to Miami
Courtney Lee, Tony Battie and Miami's trade exception to Utah
Carlos Boozer and C.J. Miles to New Jersey
(it does work on August 26th)

Miami gets good PG, Utah gets Lee and saves 10.5 M, New Jersey gets top PF and talented SG/SF.
You start Harris-Miles-Jianlian-Boozer-Lopez, backup Dooling-Hayes-Simmons-Boone-S.Williams
I should be on Lacob payroll...

That's honestly a fair proposal from our side, but I see absolutely no reason for Miami to do it and we are still in the same position with Boozer.

My argument there is NO way in hell Utah gets a prospect as highly touted as Lee for a possible 1 year rental. I'd rather keep Lee, have a top 3 pick next year and try for Boozer in the offseason.

Miami can do it cause expiring Alston would share PG job with Chalmers.

I think people are underestimating what Boozer is going to bring back.
Not only is he an expiring, but he's an elite 20/10 PF.
Amar'me would bring back a lot, no?
How bout Bosh?
Man even Zacho brought back an expiring and major instant cap savings.
Again, I don't really want him on this team, at least this season, but I think you're fooling yourself if you think he brings back nothing.
Why would Utah trade him then, to do another team a solid? :-?
Teams will have to pony up some real value, or IMO he stays in Utah all season and him and Millsap split the minutes somehow, just like last season when they were both healthy.
