Charlie Rosen's take on the Pacers.
Saw the following from Charlie Rosen, Fox Sports.
"On the basis of offseason changes made and not made, here's a projection of the NBA's seven most impotent teams
4. Indiana Pacers
Danny Granger's offense won't keep the Pacers out of the lottery.
The best athletes on the Pacers all have significant limitations: Dahntay Jones can't score. Ditto for Jeff Foster. T.J. Ford is among the most selfish point guards in the league. And Danny Granger can't defend. "
Even worse, the level of athleticism possessed by Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy and Tyler Hansbrough is far below average.
Overall, there's not enough fluid offense and not enough defense of any description for the Pacers to avoid being a chump team.
I generally enjoy this guy's work. I'm not sure he scouts the lesser teams of the league in as much depth as he would have you believe. The flaw i see in his analysis is Pacers weren't one of the 7 worst teams last year. You have two young players who should improve significantly (Rush and Hibbert) and another who should be a quick study in Hansbrough. Dunleavy a very solid player returns sometime this year. And to this point Granger has improved every year. It just doesn't seem like this team will digress.

Saying that Danny Granger can't defend made me disregard everything he said. Danny isn't the greatest defender in the world but he's good.

Danny is a very good defender against 3's, and dominates bigger 2's.

Granger definitely can make some strides in his defensive game, but he's not a bad defender. He needs to learn to play more both ways, and even he has acknowledged that....but I'd say he's at least slightly above average.
Ford was pretty selfish last year, but I don't know if I'd call him one of the most selfish PG's in the league. That just seems to be overly negative.

Rosen's schtick as a writer has always seemed to be taking the worst-case-scenario perspective...he is one negative dude, he hates just about everyone who plays in the NBA. I don't really have high expectations for a high winning pct. next season, but I don't take Rosen too seriously either.

Danny Granger can and will defend against some of the best players in the NBA, granted hes not that good at defending but he can improve to become a great defender!
Charlie Rosen is hating on Tyler Hansbrough's athleticism. A lot of people have doubted how good he is but give him 2-3 years and he'll most likely be a star in the NBA! GO PSYCHO-T

I can't believe most of these so called "experts" draw their opinions from their gut feelings and heresays and not from the facts. If that's the criteria one must have to be an analyst, then we can all get paid for our b***s*** . Only a few really makes worhty and unbiased analysis, only a few really deserves to be heard.
Care to youtube a Danny Granger block to refresh your memory?
Do some research, man and maybe he could spend some time watching the other teams and not just LeBron and the Cavs, Kobe and the Lakers, and KG and the Celtics.
I'm not really mad because someone wrote a negative review for the Pacers, i mean, if it's an honest analysis then no matter how morbid it is, it's still a valuable information worth believing. But if it's just a biased crap just like that, then all you get is wasted time with free embarassment.

Reports like this are becoming quite frequent. Indiana will continue to receive some bad press until we complete the rebuild on the fly. It's fine, we are still well on track for our goal.

Re: Charlie Rosen's take on the Pacers.
Charlie Rosen is known to be a huge Laker homer and has little to no integrity as an "expert". Saying TJ Ford is the most selfish player in the league is ridiculous and saying Granger cannot defend is borderline (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
He has us ranked below teams like the T-Wolves and Grizzlies, his whole report lacks any kind of analysts or stats to back up what he is saying its all just random opinions he has probably based on public opinion in LA.

Granger isn't a good defender. Apparently nobody in management really expects him to be, because Daniels and Rush and Jack kept getting the tougher match ups. And now we brought in Dahntay Jones to take those match ups instead. Too bad Jones isn't any better. I really don't know what our management is looking at - it certainly isn't data. I assume it's film and gut feeling. Which is kinda dumb in my opinion.

Re: Charlie Rosen's take on the Pacers.
^^^^ How many "data" tables have number of deflections, number of charges taken, number of times a player defensively contests a shot or layup that results in a miss etc...
I believe video IS greatly important in making personnel decisions. That is what management/scouts should study extensively before bringing in the player. Video and obviously going to watch the player live.
Data/stats should not be the basis of evaluating players.
And who is this Rosen character?
His story doesn't even deserve a response from me. A bit of a comical stir if you ask me

Outside of Rush, Granger is the best defender on the team. The tough matchups always went to Rush, Daniels, and Jack because they didn't want Granger to get worn down playing defense, which would result in his offense suffering. It is a common strategy, Granger could be an elite defender if we asked him to focus on defense and not offense, but we need him to score right now.

Re: Charlie Rosen's take on the Pacers.
If Granger wanted to, he could be a DPOY candidate. He let his defense fall to the wayside recently (said so himself) because of his burgeoning offensive game, and part of that is also the system he's playing in, and the injury of Dunleavy and the need for another scorer, and whatnot. But to say that "Danny Granger can't defend" is like saying Ron Artest has no offensive game. Or that Taylor Swift can't sing. She's hot.
