derek fisher

Post#1 » by chefy » Tue Jul 28, 2009 2:41 pm

I have a few questions

1st I noticed that there is like a hidden rule that we cant trade fish. because if we want, we could have/can clearly get a better pointguard than him. but the laker FO and laker fans rarely mention him in trades. for me I think its because of: her daugther's health, championship teams need veteran players/chemistry,kobe.

we all know his contract expires after this year, so he can be valuable to other teams. so if there is a trade that can make us better but not "obviously better" (or maybe just slightly better) but let say if it can get us a decent player like kik hinrich, marquis daniels, etc or if it can make our teams salary status better, would you guys trade him?

2nd fish's last playoff performance. if he played the same way as he did last season or last playoffs, would you re-signed him?

1. we are not trading Derek Fisher

2. If there is a reasonable belief that he can continue to play then why not. Unless other options present themselves. But I think right now the organization is going to give fisher the benefit of the doubt

you cant trade fish, trying to trade fish is like trying to trade kobe or gasol. no means no.

Derek stays.

Clearly, he came to LA for his daughter's health and it's likely that he won't be traded out of town just for that very reason.

However, aside from his daughter's health, how huge was Fisher in the Finals against Orlando? I'd say he should come back and not be traded, based on performance alone.

I'm not a huge fan of his style of play, but Fisher is a real champion. He's proven it time and time again. Plus, he's a great stabilizer in any locker room. He should retire as nothing but a Laker.

dfish is a true laker. After leaving to golden state right?... he wasn't happy.. then to utah.. Other than his daughter, he didn't fit in as well. He solely wanted to be in a lakers uniform where it all started.

I think that if the word trade comes up.. he'll probably retire.

I think we can trade him, but it would limit our trading partners to only a few cities, where the medical competency is comparable to that here in LA. Cleveland, Boston and New York are about it.

Plus, since Fisher chose to come back to us for less money, I don't think we should or ever will trade him again. He could have gone somewhere else. I'd bet money that he retires as a Laker as soon as he's won three more rings with Kobe.

like lakerfantastic said dfish is a laker

and because of his daughter can only be in LA or NY, and at this stage of his career wouldn't want to move everything

ok so most of the reasons we dont trade him is not because of basketball

I'm cool with some of the reasons you guys mentioned (fish's daughter, loyalty) plus I think every championship teams need veteran players

my thougths

if i'm fish I would give up the starting job IF farmar or brown has improved and ready. he can come off the bench like sam cassel when he was a celtic

if I'm fish and I played the same way as I did last year's playoffs/season this coming season, I will retire after my contract expires. It'll save my teams some money and it'll give more time for farmar and brown

because I think you guys are forgetting we almost had an heart attack watching him in last year's playoffs( if I can only show you guys some of the playoff game threads).
other than the 2 threes that he made what else did he did right? and to be honest jameer may not be 100% I dont know if you guys noticed, but if you rewatched some of the finals' games he can still penetrate and get pass fish.

I'm cool with fish we still need him, like I said every championship team needs a veteran player like fish. but I dont think I will re-sign him after his contract expires

Because the Lakers have class, and realize all DFish has done for this organiztion, and probably want him around even after he retires, he'd make a great coach or GM I think. Trading a guy like Fish when he is not wanting to leave is just bad Karma.

I dont think we can trade a guy who has helped us with 4 titles.
Even though at times I wish we had a better player in that position but oh well he has done a great job for us last year. Lets hope he can keep it up.

whether or not he resigns will be up to fish, if he wants to retire then fine. but if he wants to come back the lakers will most likely oblige

whether he starts or not is another matter, and i don't know how that would be handled

I wonder what it is like to play a pro sport for so many minutes night after night like Derek Fisher does at the age of 34. It must be really hard yet Derek Fisher has the abiliity to do it. Its obvious he has regressed but his veteran leadership is so important to us. I can't imagine how the players would be without Fish in that locker room. Especially now with Ron Ron on this squad. If Artest keeps up his stupid antics I dont think Kobe alone would be enough to knock some sense into his head.

As much as some of us might want to see FIsher retire, get traded, or whatever it is that some fans might want to see it just won't happen this season. So get used to one more year of Fish and be glad for all the things he has done for this team because sometimes he becomes very unappreciated. I'll admit even I have bashed him so many times for screwing up. And I know there are a lot of other fans on this board that have done the same.

Dude,

Did you forget what fish did and what he has the ability to do in crunch time situations. Because of Fishes agresiveness we won the title, don't forget what he brought to the table.

Finally someone said it. I read the whole thread waiting for someone to bring up the single most important reason we need DFish THIS year.

Oh, and while I've always been DFish's biggest fan, let's not forget that it takes two to trade. He fits well in the TRI but on any other team his flaws make him a huge liability and he'd really struggle given his recent play.

The man walked away from $8 million a year to join the Lakers for half of that so his baby girl could gt treatment froa rare from of eye cancer... This topic should be locked in my opinion... He embodies everything you want in a person and a player...

I think Fish still has it in him to play 1 or 2 more seasons so no chance of trading this guy

yeah I agree with you guys about the "we need fish becaus of ron/ fish is a very good locker guy" espcially if we're gonna lose odom (but deep down inside I think odom stays)

ok so now we know:

-there really is like a "hidden rule that we cant trade him"
(and I'm cool with the reasons why we dont trade him)

-we can get a better player than fish if we want, but we're not gonna trade him

onelove I respect fish and what he did, just for her daugther, I big fan of him.

Of course there are more skilled, younger and atheletic PG's in the league than DFish.
His skills are nowhere near what they were even 3 years ago.
That said, I would not trade DFish. He brings so much more to the Lakers than meets the eye.

He is a great friend and confidant to Kobe. Kobe respects him and listens to him. That's a big deal.

Also, you cannot replace the leadership he brings to the Lakers. His talks during timeouts in the Denver and Orlando series are what make leaders into legends. He is clearly a stabilizing force to this team and is well respected.
Sure you can get another PG that will come in and get 5-10 more points and 3-4 more assists, but will never replace DFish's leadership ability.
