Re: Marbury to Washington?
Wasn't it last offseason or the year before that when Marbury made headlines saying he wanted to play abroad in Italy? Looks like that might be his only option... be careful what you wish for?

Marbury will probably end up overseas somewhere ..at least that's what I'm praying happens.

It makes a lot of sense. I feel like he has worn out his welcome in the NBA. If he had been humbled by his experience with the Celtics. He may have had a close to rational view of his current abilities and been able to stick around in the NBA.
I think playing Europe will allow Marbury to the "man", and will give his team an exciting player. Not to mention all the exciting off court drama he seems to always create.

Re: Marbury to Washington?
I don't have as negative an opinion about Marbury as I did prior to the Celtics' playoff run. I though he performed fairly well there in stretches. That said, I really would prefer hearing rumors about Bigs coming to DC instead of guards. If we trade our backups and end up with Marbury in return, I don't know that this does much for us one way or another.
Given the risk of a potential Starbury explosion, I'd prefer we didn't, but again, the improvement, if it comes, will be from down in the paint.

Out of curiosity, in which stretches did he perform "fairly well?" From what I saw, he was awful virtually all the time. Mayber you're referring to game 3 of the Chicago series? He also was okay in a game or 2 against Orlando, but overall he offered nothing. Most of the time, I thought he was a negative.

Re: Marbury to Washington?
I think a lot of the perception of his performance has to do with how low the bar had been set.
He played well in 3 play off games(Bulls game 3, Magic 1 and 5).
Also his worst play-off game, game 2 against the Magic the Celtics won easily. Game 7 he was not very good, but that could be most of Celtics except Ray Allen.

Re: Marbury to Washington?
Marbury's playoff PER was 4.6. That's the 5th lowest playoff PER this season for those who played at least 100 minutes. (8th worst among those with 50 minutes; 21st worst among those who played at least 10 minutes.)
How low must the bar have been set for some to think that kind of performance could be described as "fairly well?"
Even if we just go along with the idea that he played "well" in 3 playoff games (that game 3 was solid; games 1 & 5 were better than awful (what he did the rest of the time), but still short of what I'd expect of an average NBA PG), he played in 14 playoff games. And he was unarguably awful in the other 11. So, his "played well" to "utter suckitude" record is 3-11. In other words, there's basically a 1-in-5 chance he'll perform better than awful -- about 17-18 games a season. Sorry, but that just don't seem like "played well in stretches to me."

Re: Marbury to Washington?
Marbury did play out of his mind in game 5 of the playoffs and was the big reason that the Celtics ultimately came back and won that game. He changed the momentum of a big playoff game; how many backup point guards did that?
Ultimately, the Celtics had a much better point guard. Marbury is valuable as a guy you can insert at 10-15 mpg who could change the course of the game. Of course, he didn't show he could do it consistently enough to warrant a big salary but would still be worth the veteran minimum; just not on the Wizards.

In that game, the Celtics won by 4, but were outscored by 6 points when Marbury was on the floor. He did have a nice run for 6:28 in the 4th quarter -- he got all of his positive contributions for the game (except for 1 assist) during that timespan. During that stint on the floor, the Celtics made up 1 point on the scoreboard.
A lineup of Marbury-House-R.Allen-Davis-Scalabrine played together for a few minutes and started the comeback by going +4. But looking at the gameflow, the Celts were +14 when they replaced Marbury with Rondo. Most of Boston's 16-2 run to comeback in that game happened with Marbury on the bench.

Not to belabor the point, because I think Marbury did play well in that game, and he did help his team. But I don't see him as having value -- even at the league minimum -- for any NBA team.

Yes, the Celtics were +14 but that's because Orlando wasn't scoring. The Celtics went on a 13-0 run to take the lead. Guys like Hedo and Rashard Lewis were missing shots more than anything Boston's defense was doing.
Orlando was making a push to put the game out of reach and Marbury was the guy that kept them in it and gave them hope down the stretch. He was the momentum changer; I never claimed he was the guy who finished it off. If Marbury wasn't there to score 12 points in the 4th quarter, the Celtics would have lost the game. He help ignite the Celtics offense which only had 59 points through 3 quarters.
Even Stan Van Gundy said Marbury "was the key to the game, really, I thought".
He certainly COULD be worth rolling the dice on the right team as a backup point guard. Playing with Flip Saunders again could have brought out the best of him. But with the Wizards current roster (Arenas, Foye, Crittenton); there is no room for him. Marbury at this point will probably go to Europe where he can make more money and get more playing time.

No word on whether he's still planning to play for Wizards, but I saw him eat Vaseline earlier today.
