Cowboys vs Rams Game Thread

Post#1 » by Minhee » Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:01 pm

I didn't see anybody make a game thread so I guess this can be the official one?

3rd quarter and we are up 21-7. Romo just threw a 59 yd TD to Crayton.
Not very impress by todays game even though we are up, the Rams are banged up and we were basically tied 7-7 until the end of the first half. Then again, we normally don't start playing until the 2nd half. I guess I am hard to please haha.

Let's Go Boys!

that run that romo made at the end of the 1st half was one of the greatest plays ive seen. i was wondering why he was picking the ball up instead of falling on it, low and behold he made the 1st down and i went crazy. that just adds to the mystique of romo.

this team though has got to come out firing in the 1st quarter, every game this season we've looked flat coming out of the gate and when we play against a team like new england or green bay that will bite us in the ass.

Green Bay has been a second half team in most games this year too though.

But i agree it would be nice to play 4 quarters of offense instead of 2.

That Romo run was beautiful, i saw that replay at halftime of the packers/vikings game and was just in awe. Romo is special, and not in the eagles fans shortbus kind of way.

I was also thinking Romo should fall on it. And then when he manage to finally pick it up I was thinking he should throw it away. Highlight reel for sure.

The Romo run was my second favorite play of the afternoon behind Crayton's first TD, with Owens sprinting with Crayton and shoving the Ram player 10 yards through the endzone.

That second TD pass to Crayton was a thing of beauty. Perfect pass - hit him right in stride.

The Romo-Mojo was at work fulltime yesterday. That run was just, wow. Like everyone, I was like "Fall on it! What the.... no!!! Ok, throw it away.... Ahhh!!! YES!".

That first TD to Crayton was a great move by PC. And yeah, TO hauling ass past him like nothing to make that block, just in case. Shows TO is going out of his way to keep this thing rolling. He can taste it.

And that second TD to PC was a linedrive. Usually not a fan of those down the sidelines, I like the QB to put some air under it. But when it's perfect and hits in stride, it looks like throwing darts and quick scoring. Very nice.

One thing though, this is the truth, our offensive line might all be playing at pro-bowl level. Flo has gotten some well deserved negative comments for his bonehead false starts like always. But his play has been solid. We are just massive up front and bullying people. You can tell Jason Garret loves this and it remidns him of his old Boyz teams. If our line keeps this up and stays healthy, I don't see our offense struggling at all this year. Probably not stay at 38pts/gm, but we'll be just fine. And our defense is getting better too, so, I'm really looking forward to December.

I remember all the laughing about us signing Leonard Davis to that big deal. And like i thought at the time, we'll probably get the last laugh on that.

i still am not that impressed with our running game. once the defense gets tired down its fine but at the beginning of games its not working at all. i think thats partially the reason for our slow starts, garrett is trying to establish some sort of running game and when its not working he just starts doing pass after pass.

i've been on the don't change Barber and Jones thing for a while
and while i still don't think that it should be changed (and Barber is getting more carries than Julius as the season goes on BTW)

i am soundly of the opinion that Julius is not a starting calibre NFL running back; I feel like he doesn't run well regardless of how the line blocks for him, and as the starter it always gets DAL off to a slow start in the ground game.

he ranks 30th in yards gained in this season and 34th in yards per game
while i don't think going solely to Barber is the answer and would overwork him and make him less effective, i think the tandem back needs to be someone else.

too bad we have to wait until next year for that to happen...

I could see why you see it that way. But another way you could see it ...

Game 1: It's a throw away. Neither team knew what the other was going to do or do well. So, we went wild on both run and pass. Especially pass though. Tony racked up over 300 yards and we ran for about 150 or so on 4.7 yrds/carry.

Game 2: Dolphins D saw what Romo did, so they maybe tried to play the pass a little better knowing their run support should hold up without bringing in too many guys in the box. They "held" Romo to under 300 yards passing but we still racked up 160 yards on about the same yds/carry.

Game 3: Bears said screw that, two games in a row they get over 150 yards rushing. We'll stack the line (like they always do) and make them pass and get pressure on that QB. They are so tough up front when they put guys in the box that there was nowhere to run. You could clearly see in the 2nd quarter the offensie abandon the run and go pass all the way. Tony killed them. Then by the 4th, they were so tired (rushing passers all day against this massive line can tire you out) that we finished them off with the running at the end.

Game 4: Perfect example of our balance. The Rams were so depleted/bad in their defensive backfield that they couldn't afford to stack the line. But they saw TO racking up the yards too, so sent a double to him. Their plan: take out TO and brace ourselves for the running game and keep it close. Romo still burns them with Crayton doing the damage (since they kept doubling TO) and our running attack managed 171 yards on 5.2yds/carry, our most impressive day since our long was but 23 yards.

I see our line wearing the opponent down if we run the ball or decide to pass for the middle 2 quarters. Rushing the passer against a massive line that doesn't budge much AND a QB back there that is running around and making you chase him with no reward... can be just as tough physically as being run on. You'll get winded as a defensive lineman. And late in the game, get mauled when Flo, Gurode, Davis, etc. get their big paws on you. And if we wear them down and start pounding them late in the game,

I see us winning that battle at the line most of the time. So, our running game should get theirs by the end of the game. If that big line keeps pushing and pushing, it's just a matter of time before it cracks. And Marion is getting good at smelling blood and going for the kill late in the game when our line has worn them down.
