What about angry Kryptonate?

Post#1 » by wiff » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:20 pm

It still looks like Nate Robinson is far from finding a long term home.

He is a restricted free agent. And it looks like the Knicks are reluctantly not wanting to pay him 5 or 6 mil for one year. But since the Knicks are trying to protect their 2010 cap space why not throw a three year 4mil a year deal at the vertically challenged, hopps blessed guard just to see what the Knicks do?

Image

Last year Nate averaged,
17.2pts
3.9rebs
4.1dimes
1.28stls
.08blk
43.7fg%
3.25 3pt%

They guy can score the ball, sure his defense is going to suffer due to his lack of height. But the guy competes and I think he would be a nice Eddy House type of player.

Plus there is an entertainment factor that comes with Nate. People love to watch the little guys get up and dunk.
Image

His assist to turnover ratio is 2.16 and he has the ball in his hands a lot.

I think a Microwave/Vinny Johnson type of role would be a good fit for Nate. And I think he could find a home in the back court of Westbrook, Harden, and Livvy.

Think of him as a much better Damien Wilkins where fans will actually pay to watch him play.

Nate's play is inspiring but I don't think he's a good fit on this team. He's too good and will be too expensive to play 15-20mpg off the bench..

I doubt it will happen, but I wouldn't mind us going after Nate. He'd instantly be a fan favorite. I don't think he has to be too expensive. We can at least offer more than that 1 year deal the Knicks were rumored to offer.

Eddie House makes 2.8mil

So is 4mil overpaying? Maybe a little, but job security is a wonderful thing. One year at 5, or 3 for a total of 12 isn't too shabby.

Now I'm not sure if Nate would be happy coming off the bench? I can see him wanting to start some where. But I think a 6th man spark of the bench would out pretty well.

He can play the point or SG. I actually think he would compliment Westbrook and Harden pretty well.

Nate Robinson hasn't logged one minute at SG in his career according to 82games.

Actually, wiff, I think $4 million is under paying for Robinson. He's probably worth a full MLE contract and will probably get a deal somewhere close to that. I definitely wouldn't mind Nate Robinson on a 3 year, $12 million contract.

He's definitely prime sixth man material.. I just worry about his versatility and how he'd fit with this roster. He kind of plays really similar to Westbrook, actually.

I don't really like him, as he's kind of a gunner. I think that he should end up somewhere that he can have a large role off of the bench (which we'd admittedly be able to give him). If a team is looking to sign him as a long-term starter, they will be very disappointed IMO.

As far as him at SG. I think that 82games may have considered him the PG on the floor when he was out there with like Marbury and Duhon. For example, 82games has Duhon playing almost half of his minutes at the 2. If you've watched Duhon, you know he's a pretty far cry from a 2-guard. I would assume that those 15 min/g that 82games has Duhon at the 2, it was really Nate playing the 2.

That's my whole angle on this. The Knicks are clutching to every last salary cap dollar with hopes of landing LeBron and who ever else.

So I think they would be reluctant to extend a multi year deal to Nate. I think 4mil for the next three years would be good value for a guy who can fill it up and put butts in the seats.

The one way that Robinson would fit very well is that at this point (assuming Krstic/Green/Durant/Harden/Westbrook starting lineup), we have ALL of our scoring in the starting 5. When your best scorer off of the bench is umm... I guess I'll go with Thabo/Weaver (who by no means should be better than a 5th option offensively), then you NEED more bench scoring. Livingston should be able to create some good looks for the 2nd string and Thabo and Collison move well without the ball, but we have absolutely zero bench scoring heading into the season.

Then why would you pass?
A good scorer off the bench is exactly what this team needs

I'd pass because Nate is undersized for one. That makes him a massive defensive liability. What ever scoring he gives you comes at a low% and is negated by the oposing guys ability to score on him.

so PASSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Pretty much for the reasons Clangus said... I think that he would fill a huge void for us (bench scoring) but also create liabilities that we don't have the bench talent to overcome currently.

Regardless of how he'd fit on the team, I don't think Nate is a Presti player. Presti has a thing for versatile players who can play multiple positions. Nate can't really do that.

There will be better fits available down the road..

From the team standpoint, who can the Thunder look into to get more help offensively off the bench whether it's free agency or via trade?

See that's just it, plus you can pair him with Livvy in spots too. Nate covers the PG and Livvy covers the SG on D.

I don't really think it is that far of a stretch with him fitting in the back court.

The only reason why I wouldn't do it, is the cost. But if you can get Nate at 4mil a year I think that is workable.

wiff, it'd be nice to get Robinson at that price but it's unlikely. It's true he might sign a one year deal with the Knicks for around that number, but that's more so he can get himself involved in 2010 free agency. I can't see him bolting for OKC unless it's for more coin than that.
