Ha ha! Don't know them. When I left the country they were maybe 10.

EDIT: And age would have been the only reason. As you pointed out, the total population of 115 doesn't merit much of a problem in terms of running into them.

Its fun to see the numerous innuendos that can rise out of the Spidey persona.

Hey E, just a quick update on bella italia. She just shot me an e-mail to let me know she is heading down to Mexico to see if she can work things out with her BF. Oh well...at least she was honest about it, right?

Yeah. Hard not to appreciate that. And that's one of the reasons why she's stuck in your head, right? The idea of a straight shooting, honest, hot woman who you love spending time with. Hard to give up on that picture. Out of curiosity, does she know where you are in terms of hopes for you and her, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, I don't think there's any question about that.

But the whole situation is really muddled as...well, I don't know any other way to put it but I've been seeing a therapist for about two months, and recently starting going through the 12-step process to rid myself of some pretty deep-seated issues that I didn't even know I had.

It's embarrassing as a man to admit that, but this is who I am and what I need to do to be the person I think I'm capable of being. Frankly, I should have done this a long time ago, but I had no idea that some of my behaviors and/or habits were so destructive.

Let me say this -- there are things out there that are just as bad as drugs and alcohol, and you'd have absolutely no idea until you're neck deep. I know I didn't...

So at this stage, with my prime focus being myself right now, I'm not even sure how wise it is to be getting wrapped up in something like this. For the sake of transparency, I shot her an e-mail yesterday about the therapy, so it might not even be in my hands any more. I doubt it ever was, to be perfectly honest.

At any rate, there's my vent. That should do me for the next couple of hours.

One quick aside -- if you ever have trouble sleeping, do some deep soul-searching. That will knock your ass out like it's never been knocked out before.

Liquor usually does the trick but for my age, sleep should not be a big issue.

LOL, my skin would probably peel off. Although I must say, I'm trying to keep an open mind about anything at this point. I used to call religion a crutch. Well right about now, that "crutch" is looking pretty damn good.

I belong to the church of Coach John Wooden. HIghly inspirational, in the most likable and intelligent of ways.

Yeah. I'm lucky enough to get to do nothing but that every day when I write, and I have never ever had any trouble sleeping. But I also stay up way too late every night, so it would be strange if I wasn't knocked out the second I lie down.

That's another thing out of the John Wooden school — working hard. If you're not dead tired when you go to bed, you haven't made enough an effort, in my opinion.

I have seen a whole lot of that type of trouble up close, ST. I've had people close to me — some of the best put together parents I've met — suddenly almost dropping down dead from that stuff. None of us knew about it until it could have been too late. Divorce followed.

Like Bill Maher says, when the hell will the American people wake up to the fact that the drug companies are, just that — drug companies? What they sell are chemical drugs. Deadly, addictive designer drugs made in a lab. A lab made legal, so that government officials can make lobbying money and kick-backs. There is no medicinal argument to support taking 30 Norco pills a day being a better activity than snorting lots of cocaine.

It won't change until there's economic incentive to change. It's our generation's job to figure out an economic model that makes moral business etiquette profitable. Someone smart like yourself should put on the thinking cap. Future consumer laws will have to have morals and empathy built into them, because if it's not the law, companies will not care about doing the right thing. Unless it's profitable.

Well, my problems don't have anything to do with substances per se. I only drink rarely, and I quit smoking pot cold turkey a long time ago after doing it almost every day for five years. But I've been suffering from a very destructive addiction nonetheless, one that I didn't even know was an issue until very recently.

But in the end, I suppose it's all the same. All addicts are looking for something -- be it drugs or alcohol or food or shopping or gambling or sex or whatever -- to numb the every day pains of life.

Most of us humans learned to handle, or at least tolerate, them. But some of us, a group that's growing larger and larger by the day, figured out at some point that we could (insert activity) to excess and sidestep it all together -- lonliness, anxiety, fear, pain, whatever. Never mind the long-term damage. Just let me tune in and drop out.

One of my biggest beefs right now is that I didn't realize what I was doing. Until now. Now I'm at the very beginning of a long, winding path to which I have absolutely no map or compass. At any rate, with the blessing of whatever or whomever is driving this train, I'm hoping that in the process I'll develop some of your innate wisdom and serenety, E. Those are nice qualities to have. As would be a stronger work ethic, aided by less RealGM!

And I hate to fall into my cynical mindset, because it's something that has helped put me where I am, but I doubt morals and empathy will ever have a place in the world of big business, or mankind in general. If so, we'd all be living like the Native Americans used to, in complete harmony with our surroundings and taking only enough to sustain ourselves.

That is the complete antithesis to modern life, with its rallying cry of "more, more, more!"

Danny Darko wrote:well for all my bitchin about money I passed up the iPod touch and bought a Marshal Combo amp instead for smaller acoustic gigs.... sounded great last night, which is good because I was afraid if it didn't totally kill it I'd have buyers remorse.

Maaaaaaannn!!

Didn't you know you could just download a guitar-app on the iPod and use that for smaller gigs? There are actually videos of "iBands" playing on youtube..haha

J/K

I love my touch, but a guitar amp is a good investment, didn't know you could play.

Population growth (carbon footprint) will one day soon force us to re-evaluate what life-style is, and we will be forced to change our consuming ways altogether.

And as far as serenity goes, just so you know, I'm very far from it. But thanks for the sentiment.

Would be fun to have a beer one day and talk for real.

EDIT: I don't know enough about your situation, but in general I wouldn't worry too much, blow it up too big. You have the mind to be able to make the right decision. You also have focus, good judgment and discipline enough to stick to it, as evidenced by prior cold turkey bravado. Not everyone can do that. And, since you're already aware, there's no good reason to wait. Why not make it happen today? You get to choose between a big ole pile of doo and a little pile of doo. Which one is it going to be? I know, it's easier said than done. A buddy of mine is currently going through hell, trying to shake a habit. Relapse, excuses, relapse, extenuating circumstances, relapse, self-victimization, relapse, loneliness, relapse, and so on and so on...
