God Sabean is an idiot. He better not get a new deal after this year. What a POS trade. Sanchez wouldn't sign an extension and they get top dollar for him.

Is this Sabeans last year with the Giants or does he still have one more year left because this is a terrible trade.

I wanted Sanchez but I was expecting him to get him for cheap.

All Im saying is that Lincecum and Cain better be Giants for 10 more years now same with Bumgarner if he turns out to be a stud. Because thats the only way to make me forget about Alderson that or Zack Wheeler becomes a stud also.

We could have got Holliday had we thrown a little more in. Why Sanchez straight up?

I agree with this 100%. And if we didnt resign Holiday we would have recieved draft picks for him to offset the trade.

I just do not understand this trade and it makes me not want to like Sanchez because now when I look at him Im going to think about what we gave up for him.

Stupid Sabean.

Even if it were Alderson for Uggla I wouldn't be too happy. But Sanchez? Freddy fckin Sanchez? He's on the wrong side of 30, he has no pop, and has 10 SB in his 8 year career. Alderson could be an all-star in a few years. Now the Giants have Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner... then who? Alderson is gone. Barnes is gone. Zito is crap. Jonathon Sanchez is a headcase. Horrible, horrible deal.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, F Sanchez easily becomes our best middle infielder. He is an all-star, and still hits for average. But the Giants should've got way more for Alderson.

I would still hate this deal if we had 5 better pitchers than Alderson. Other teams need pitchers, they're not hard to trade. I could see making a gamble on a holliday type player, but I don't even think Sanchez is that good.

Alderson will be good. How good? Probably a number 2 starter, maybe a third starter. He probably won't be a Lincecum-type ace, but he will be middle of the rotation or better.

So after Rowand and Schierholtz get back, is this how the lineup will look?

Winn/Torres
F. Sanchez
Sandoval
Schierholtz
Garko/Ishikawa
Rowand/Lewis
Molina
Renteria/Uribe

Lincecum
Zito
Cain
Sanchez
Sadowski/Pucetas/Johnson

In 2011/2012
Not that bad, but would've been better with Alderson and Barnes. Outfield doesn't look too good.

Noonan 2B/ Sanchez/ Bond
Crawford SS/Adrianza
Posey C/ Joseph
Sandoval 3B/ Dominguez
Villalona 1B/Gillaspie/ Garko
Schierholtz OF/ Neal
Kieschnick OF/ Rowand
Rodriguez OF/ Martinez-Esteve

Lincecum
Bumgarner
Cain
Zito/Sanchez
Pucetas/Sosa

Giants made a good trade. Alderson has given up 76 hits in only 72 innings and Strikeout's were declining. His upside on the Giants is a fifth starter.

I saw Sanchez on the road trip against Lincecum and he impressed me. That's not even mentioning he was excellent with the range and glove.

Brett Wallace>> Alderson. I'm not sure about that one.

I'd put Wallace ahead of Alderson too and its likely the A's wanted a young bat thats closing in on the majors and the only one right now thats up there is Posey.

Alderson is going to be a solid starter in the major leagues. I can see why he was traded because of the pitching depth we have but I just think that he could have been better used in a bigger package.

Not really sure how I feel about this trade. First off, I think Alderson has potential to be a very good #2 or 3 pitcher in the rotation, but let's face it, he'll never be better than Lincecum, Bumgarner or Cain. Also, we gotta think about $$$. Lincecum will need to be signed a bigger deal soon and if another pitcher out of our minor league pulls a Timmy, he'll need a big deal too. Besides, our offensive has been absolutely TERRIBLE lately. Now, Sanchez hasn't had that great of a year so far, but he'll be an improvement over anyone we had immediately. Let's not forget, this guy has been an All-Star 3 out of the last 4 years, so if he can get back to those numbers, then this trade will be a wash...but if he continues his slump (and his knee doesn't recover), then......

That's fair about Holliday, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter what our rotation is like, Alderson has more value than Sanchez and probably could have been used to get a player who could put us 'more over the top'.

True, don't you think we could have got a better player (and better value overall) if we put together a package of J. Sanchez + Alderson + top 10 prospect? Although, after hearing about Randy's injury, I think Sanchez is here to stay...for now.

You guys are just thinking about power bats and ignoring we had the worst second base production in the league. We needed a second basemen and we got the best one available.

My initial reaction to this trade was disgust even though I think Sanchez will be a good fit on the team. I think the success of Cain and Lincecum has people overrating the value of pitching prospects some. The list of Giants top pitching prospects before those two is full of a bunch of busts and that's pretty standard around the league. I still think they could of gotten a better deal, add Duke and a couple of the low upside AAA level prospects in the system and I'd be good, but I'm ok with the deal as made.

Horrible trade. For what we traded for Garko and Sanchez, we could've got Cliff Lee and had a absolutely dominant rotation. This is a product of Sabean being lazy and targeting one guy, and Pittsburgh knew it and could demand a high ransom. I doubt Sanchez is going to be that much better than Uribe.

Reminds me of the Benson/Kazmir deal a couple years back, getting back damaged goods for a projected #2 starter.

"I doubt Sanchez is going to be that much better than Uribe."

Do you know how ridiculous you sound? Sanchez is way better than Uribe just off his range and glove alone.

That's one thing I am excited about: the defense. It will be really cool when Ishikawa is playing first.
