Yeah, I agree that looking at it from the angle that we had Chandler for scraps and then CHA traded Okafor for Chandler straight... we could've had our same roster with Okafor, would've been pretty sweet. Other side is, that is a huge contract. Got to agree though, if you go conservatively then you can miss out on a lot of opportunities!

Who started this idea? I have4 seen is bandied around alot.

I know Nawlins is supposedly looking for cap relief and on that front it makes no sense to bring in Okafor, but if we wre going to get involved wouldn't they have just made it a 3 way deal?

I don't really think that we have a realistic chance at getting Okafor. I think that now that this deal is done, both players will be staying in their places. Okafor was probably seen by the Hornets as a lower short-term cost (save a mil or 2) option to Chandler while being a more integral part of the future. While Chandler provides quicker long-term cap relief for the Bobcats without a big talent drop-off. I don't see anything coming OKC's way from this, although either player would be a great fit for us at the 5, IMO.

He is on contract for pretty long though. If the Thunder could get Okafor for a bit more than they almost gave for Chandler, that would be awesome. Something LIKE Daniels and Okafor for Collison could be sweet. Would save the Hornets $10 mill immediately while only adding less than $6 mill to next year's pay roll for the Thunder.

I don't think Okafor is on his way to OKC either. But he was obviously available.

And that's what is depressing.

It's disconcerting that the Thunder apparently didn't go hard after Okafor. I will be very disappointed if the Thunder operate at such a low salary number the entire season, it would be a very Memphis-esque thing to do. If Presti isn't aggresively in the deadline trade market then I'd question the team's commitment to win over their commitment toward saving money.

Although it's disappointing to see them do almost nothing about the center position (Mullens provides NO short term help), this is the strategy that I've wanted all along. Durant's going to get a max contract, and then (assuming things work out) Green/Westbrook/Harden will all get contracts at the future equivalent of about 9-11 mil/season. With those contracts, we're at the salary cap already, so we've got to fit all of the rest of our team under the luxury cap at the VERY most, and that may be optimistic considering the size of the city/fan base. So at that point, we've got oh... 15 mil to fill out the rest of our roster. If we bring on an Okafor-like contract, then we're stuck with all minimum guys for the other TEN players. Even if we get an MLE guy for the 5, we still would need to spend very wisely on the bench to have it work out at all.

The obvious arguments against this logic are that 1) maybe the four core guys we have now aren't part of the long-term plan and 2) maybe the four guys won't get as big of contracts as I estimated.

looking at that like that, it's almost necessary to send Green for frontcourt help.
Or get lucky in next years draft

Kaman/future pick or Kaman/Thornton for Green is still on the table.

It's comforting to know the more things change the more they stay the same.

As much as you're a pain in my ass you know I love having you around Dick.

Nothing like a little jaded perspective to brighten my day.

Jeff Green for Okafor isnt fair market value. Wilcox and Joe Smith are though? (first thunder trade that was recinded for Tyson Chandler). Funny how far expiring contracts go in a marketplace.

i doubt New Orleans does this trade now. They won't have a big man to do pick and rolls with Paul.

Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
