Worst trade ever???

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:13 pm

GSW traded a former #1 pick (Belinelli) for Devon George and cash. They didnt eve get a pick. Might be worst trade ever. Belinelli showed signs of improvement last year. Is this really the best deal the GSW could get? Hard to believe. This was not a salary dump as he did not make alot of money. True George has an expiring contract BUT Belinelli has one year left with a CLUB option on year four. His contract is in essence an expiring contract as well. What were other GMS doing? Especially teams whom are rebuiding like Oklahoma City and Memphis. One of the worst NBA trades of alltime especially if Belinelli develops. Here are some other worst trades of alltime.

1) Utah Jazz trade #1 pick ending up being Magic Johnson for Gail Goodrich BUT Jazz didnt know they were going to be worst team in league when trade made.
2) Utah Jazz trade Dominque for Larry "Druggy" Drew, Freeman Williams and Cash. The key was cash as the Jazz were broke so makes some sense.
3) Isiah trading for over paid Randolph from Portland then LAC acquiring NBA's worst contract in Randolph last year then another team taking Randolph off their hands this off season. You trade for Randolph and his contract then your officially an idiot.
4) Gasol to Lakers for nothing and other GMS not stopping that.

First off, no way that 2 of the 4 worst trades in history are Jazz trades. And second, if it werent for the cash they received in the 'Nique trade, the Jazz probably wouldnt be here right now.

I agree with you but as pure basketball trades neither one made sense. They were made by Jazz for other reasons which were to draw fans with Goodrich and money for Dominique.

This topic ought to go one of two ways, either the worst overall NBA trades ever, which doesn't belong in this forum, or the worst / best Jazz trades ever, which would belong here.

In either case, the trade involving Dominique is most certainly not one of the worst NBA or Jazz trades ever, in that in saved the franchise from a financial perspective. You could actually easily make the case that trade was one of the five best trades ever for the Jazz, not on talent, but in terms of preserving the franchise.

Why? Main purpose of this was to state GSW trade yesterday may be worst trade of alltime. The Jazz trades were terrible but there was some logic behind it BUT there is no logic behind the GSW trade yesterday.

The GSW trade yesterday isn't even in the top 50 worst trades of all-time. A minor role player on an irrelevant team being traded for an even more minor player on another irrelevant team. Who cares?

Belinelli wasn't a first overall pick, it was Bargnani.

Belinelli? Yawn. This trade barely warrants a mention at all, and certainly not in a discussion of worst trades of all time.

Gasol to the Lakers? That's bad. Joe Barry Carroll for Robert Parish and the pick that would become Kevin McHale? That's bad.

BTW: Jazz didn't trade that pick to the Lakers, it was compensation for signing Gail Goodrich.

Yeah, I read it as first rounder, but since Batu said that I think Toledo was getting Belinelli and Bargnani mixed up.

I think so too... and I actually think it's a good trade for both teams.
