The link says it all. The Grizz will make plans to sign PG Marcus Williams to the roster sometime in the next few days. After his encouraging plays in the Grizz summer league action. It's looks like Williams hard work will pay off.

Marcus Williams is a very good player and he could surprise a lot of people in this board. Williams deserves to be in the NBA the guy could run a team's offense and he could end up being a starting point guard one day in the league. He just needs a chance.

I wouldn't say that Marcus is a whole lot better than Conely, but right now I believe he has the edge. This is the first time that Marcus is going to play behind a PG that he actually has a chance to take his starting position. People don't realize that Williams has played behind Kidd, Monta Ellis, and Devin Harris. Conely better have a consistent 15' jumper this year or he might become the backup.

Heh, you act like Williams is a dead eye shooter from the outside or something. He has nothing over Conley besides being bigger. He should be an adequate backup though. And BTW there were other circumstances besides simple ability that factored into Williams not getting a shake at his previous NBA teams. Hopefully the time out of the league has humbled the guy, he's a good player.

Marcus Williams has nothing over Conley besides being bigger? I really think you should do some research on that. Out of the two I think Williams is the better player and the better point guard period. Williams has never gotten a chance to play as a starting point guard just because he was playing behind guys like Monta Ellis, Jason Kidd and Devin Harris but the guy is a starter in the league. He is a way better passer than Conley, better mid range shooter, hes better in transition and he is going to make Memphis better. He has Mayo, Randolph, and Gay who could all score and you could easiley see him average over 10 assits just because of them. The guy breaks down the defense and hits the open guy most of the time and that is something Conley can't do as good as Williams. Williams right now has everything over Conley you need to stop overrating Conley because honestly he ain't all that he is starting for memphis just because he was the only point guard on the team because now watch that position go to Williams.

M-Will is horrible. I assume it's a make-good contract? See what happens when you fire your scouts?

Re: Grizz to sign Marcus Williams
The Warriors had no PG last season - first we lost Baron and then Monta, but M-Will couldn't beat out an undrafted rookie free agent (I don't even remember his name, he was also cut by the Warriors and then cut again by the Bulls) for playing time. Warriors gave up a conditional 1st round pick for Williams and didn't even feel it was worth picking up his rookie scale option for this season.
M-Will is fat, lazy, and out of shape. When the rest of the players were having a dunk contest in practice, M-Will refused to participate. His minutes per game for the Warriors went down from 20+ to zero in very short order - in fact look at his career stats, every season he's been in the League he has played less and less.
I will say that he is a true PG who knows how to make a pass... but his game is to slowly walk the ball up court, pound it for about seven seconds, then launch an ill-advised three. And sure he put up some good stats in summer League, but c'mon - he was going against undrafted rookies, for the most part. He should be looking like LeBron in SL by this point in his career.
Neither Rod Thorn nor Don Nelson had any use for the guy, and they know a little something about basketball players.
Believe me, the guy will not contribute in any positive sense to your team... just hope he has a small unguaranteed contract and will not make it out of training camp.

^^^ Maybe being with a team team where he'll be able to prove himself may help Marcus in the long term. It will depend on if he can continue to display what he did in SL with the Grizz in training camp come October and beyond.

-(lol, and what did all your great research consist of? ' I like Williams, I don't like Conley, therefore Williams will win the starting position)
Out of the two I think Williams is the better player and the better point guard period. Williams has never gotten a chance to play as a starting point guard just because he was playing behind guys like Monta Ellis, Jason Kidd and Devin Harris but the guy is a starter in the league.
-(Umm..that kind of happens when you flame out towards the end of your NCAA career and get drafted at #22. You play behind talent, if dude was such a budding star, why couldn't he at the least hold down the backup positions for those teams? Lots of good guards play behind talent.)
He is a way better passer than Conley, better mid range shooter, hes better in transition and he is going to make Memphis better.
-(Hyperbole, ge's a good passer...not way better than Conley..and maybe hit shot his better than Conley vs the Puerto Rican scubs, but not here.)
He has Mayo, Randolph, and Gay who could all score and you could easiley see him average over 10 assits just because of them. -(I guess if you put something in your mind enough times it will become true. I'll sig/avatar bet anyone on RealGM that Conley holds it down this year. We can revisit at the end of the year, all star break, monthly, even weekly. And that's not even homering for the kid. You simply just have to recognize an improving young PG who has hella support from his headcoach. I acknowledge that Williams is good player who should be a decent backup. The only thing the haters have for Conley is that he sucks..well that just reveals them to be..well..haters...you should be happy your dude is back in the league..lets not get greedy by assuming starting roles..you're going to be dissapoitned if that's the case)

Re: Official: Grizz sign Marcus Williams
This is a great fit for Marcus because makes other players better. This great PG class per se--Marcus is in the same age bracket or close to them all and he was the best PG in the SL--it's like Memphis got an extra first round pick. Who cares if he didnt participate in a GS dunk contest--he's got the ability to set up other players who can finish and memphis has a lot of them. As long as he can shoot the 3 ball at 36-38% and use his big body at the rim more often when needed to score[as a secondary option] I think he will do well here. It's all about fit in the NBA if you are not a tier 1 type player.

But he can only get his big body at the rim if someone gives him a boost.

It's not a bad move. I would have preferred to get a Brevin Knight or JWill.
