Nash knows Gasol trade was bogus
I'm glad someone finally said what everyone knows which is that the gasol trade was a complete sham. Chris Wallace was a puppet for Jerry West who orchestrated that deal before wallace got there but allowed wallace to take the fall for it. It has to be one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history and I'm surprised the league never looked into it. When you look at what we paid to get KG versus what the Lakers gave up it's laughable.

stop being hypocrite.... Mchail bailed us out by giving KG.... he had better offers but instead tryed to help us out...... Jefferson was good but still it was a steal for us....... Lakers gave less than us but still they gave quality player in marc gasol who can turn into a solid player..... if u want to talk about lop side traded look at VC trade to nets.... that trade just set the raptors franchise back....

Really what were the better offers???? As far as I know we took a chance by offering Big Al and some of our other young talent for KG. Some of the Celtics fans were upset with the KG trade, I dont think any LA fans were upset with the Pau trade.
VC trade to the nets wasnt an awful trade SINCE VC WANTED OUT!!!! Its not the same as what La did with Gasol
AND LEARN HOW TO SPELL McHALE!!!!!

they gave a 2nd rounder who turned out to develop into a decent player. that's about the same as if we traded Semih Erden for Garnett, and Erden unexpectedly turned into a solid player.
just because M. Gasol turned out to be a pretty good player doesn't mean it wasn't a giveaway at the time.
Just like, just because Joe Barry Carroll turned out to be a disappointment, Parish realized his potential, and McHale turned out to be great - those things don't mean it wasn't a fair trade at the time.
Savvy trades look even at the time, and turn out lopsided. That's what Red usually did.
Lopsided trades look awful at the time - if time makes them minimally less lopsided like Marc Gasol did, it doesn' t change the fact that it was lopsided. And the Lakers have typically benefited from lopsided trades.

Why would it remind you of one trade? Celtics gave up the #1 overall pick and a guy perceived as a franchise center. They got Parish for trading down 2 picks. At the time the trade would have been like ...Kevin Durant for...Emeka Okafor plus Al Horford. Or Tim Duncan for Andrew Bogut + Keith Van Horn. Even trades at the time.
Even though both trades turned out lopsided, only the Gasol trade was obviously, criminally, lopsided at the time.

Even if LA dealt Bynum for Gasol, which would make it a reasonable deal, they still win this year's title due to Boston & Houston being injured.

ABSOLUTELY agree...West TOTALLY pulled the strings on this--The owner of the Grizzlies said afterwards, that he didn't know why they made this move so quickly--WAY BEFORE the trading deadline(and didn't even listen to other offers).....This move turned the Lakers into a Dynasty again...before it happened, Kobe was crying to get out of LA.-----So, when the Lakers over take us in Championships----you can look back on this RIGGED deal....Any REAL Celtics Fan should STILL be pissed about this........Danny Ainge had to give up MORE than HALF our team(if you include the draft picks) to get KG.

How exactly is it not the same? You don't think Gasol was asking for a trade? Memphis tried to trade Gasol for two years and nobody would take on his contract without sending back money. Memphis has money issues and were going to win 20 games with Gasol or without him. They took the only deal that was out there that involved a large expiring deal. They probably should have been a little bit more patient but it wasn't like they woke up one morning and decided to deal the guy.
As for Ainge he could have not dealt for KG and kept Ratliff's contract and made the same deal that LAL did instead he got Garnett. Boston did not trade half its roster for Garnett they traded Gomes/Jefferson and two first round draft picks one of which was more likely going to be a 2nd rounder. The rest of the package was cap junk we just didn't realize how junk GG was at the time.
Didn't the Suns just trade Shaq for two guys they ended up buying out? What is the difference? If the Cavs win it is exactly the same thing.
In a salary cap league some moves are made for money and some are made for talent, what is so hard to understand.

The VC trade was much different since Courtney Lee alone is much more valuable than anything Memphis got.
Any team trying to win would have given expiring contracts + plus useful draft picks / decent prospects for Gasol - it sounds like after getting tired of Chicago's lowball offers, Memphis just jumped at the first deal for expirings they could find - basically erased his salary while getting nothing in return. When they could have shopped around and similarly erased his salary and gotten something useful if they had waited a little bit.
I seriously doubt that Jerry West, oops I mean Chris Wallace, would have given us Gasol for Ratliff straight up - he'd probably have demanded Jefferson be included, or at least Rondo or someone valuable. We don't get sweetheart deals like the Lakers do.
Shaq is on his last legs, that's why that trade was different. The Richard Jefferson trade is possibly the only similar trade that has happened recently. And Jefferson is nowhere near as valuable as Gasol.
These trades also happened in 2009, when the economy was much worse than it was in 2007-08. The Gasol trade would make a little more sense now. But it was basically the same as selling Dr. J or Babe Ruth. It had nothing to do with the salary cap or trying to win, it was only about saving money. That makes sense in 1918 or 1977, and is almost understandable in 2009 - crippling your team and letting the rich get richer, just to save money - but it is pretty unspeakable in 2007.

There were some who touted Joe Barry Carroll as the next Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The combination of that and the success that McHale and Parish has always haunted Carroll. The guy averaged 20 points a game for four straight seasons. His stunning decision to spend a couple of years in Italy did not help his perception. He was by no means a bust in the regards of Michael Olowakandi or Kwame Brown and once made the All Star team.
The actual trade was #1 overall pick + #13 overall pick for the #3 overall pick and Parish. Utah passed on McHale to draft Darrell Griffeth so there certainly was no consensus that McHale was going to be a Hall of Famer. The trades are really not comparable - which player that the Grizzlies got even remotely resembles an All Star? The Joe Barry Carroll trade made sense for both clubs at the time - ironically it was Parish who was considered the underacheiver at the time of the trade and later Carroll earned the nickname "Joe Barely Cares" for his emotionless play. In another situation Carroll would have been considered an excellent NBA center. In today's NBA he would certainly be in the top 3-4. It's all about perception and timing with him.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."
