Tony put Berkmar High School on the map.

I believe he's currently playing overseas and plays for the ATL Outkast during tournaments.

Tony wanted to come to Central, but was told during a visit that he wouldn't start as a freshman, so that lead him to Berkmar. While I agree with you Retrovision, all Central has is a Girls state championship, and not a Boys state championship. Kills the appeal.

wow seriously? Im going into my senior year at central and I play football. Central Gwinnett has more talent then a lot of more sucessful schools in Gwinnett. Have you ever heard of Timmy Smith?

If you're referring to the Timmy Smith from the early 90's. He was an outstanding athlete at both football and basketball. I knew him and some of his siblings. Central's former head coach opened his doors to Timmy and allowed him to live with him. However, Timmy was unable to stay out of trouble, and he threw his future as a player away. Very sad story for him, his family and the school. A complete beast with a basketball and football.

Have you seen film of Timmy on the football field?

I havent actually seen film of the guy, but I have seen all his records. Whenever some of are older coaches/staff talk about him their eyes get wide. It sounds as if he was the best player talent wise during his time. His statistics from his freshman and sophomore year are simply ridiculous. While I dont really understand what happend to him it was a shame because he was a monster.

He is the best athlete I have ever seen on a football field at the high school level. Built like a tank and just extremely fast. Central used him in many different ways and he was so exciting to watch. The mailbox was full of scholarships, but he can only blame himself, and the Coaches that talk about him now probably just want to focus on the positive.

I watched him play basketball when he was in 8th grade and he could easily dunk. Just an overall freak of nature. How Lebron James dominated on the basketball court during high school is basically how Timmy dominated "kids" on the football field.

He made it cool to play for Central. However, during the mid 90's the school district rezoned, and surrounding schools ended up getting a large amount of Central's talent. To put a school on the map you must win state championships. Otherwise it all becomes a faded memory.

From another forum:

Best High School Player

Anyone who saw Timmy Smith play for Central Gwinnett is obviously among the priviledged few, because he was apparently a stud and then some. Have honestly heard every person who saw him play list him #1.

I saw Timmy Smith play and he would be #1 BUT.

I was fortunate enough to go to one Ga-Fla all star game. CWard and Curry dominated a field stacked with future pro and college players like they were still in pop warner.

Twas the most impressive display on each side I have ever seen.

Soooo, Timmy Smith is solidly and unquestionably #2.

Timmy Smith. He is the best I have ever seen. I was at the South Gwinnett-Central game when Timmy ran down South's running back from out of nowhere. For anyone who saw it you will never forget it.

It is a shame that this kid never did anything with himself, but for me it would have to be Timmy Smith. Kid was amazing. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=135&f=2735&t=1243779&p=2

Well, the head coach was fired for sleeping with another teacher at school, but the entire school was renovated and expanded probably due to the success of the basketball team.

Man, look at that map. Wow!

Name recognition is as important as anything else when a player is deciding which school to attend. While we are not as talented as teams in the past, we are a 'family'. Recently we visited an FCA camp and it dramatically improved are Chemistry. Team Unity Etc. Since your interested/knowledgeable about the program I will try to keep you up to date with all thats going on.
