OT: What's your jumpshot like.
I'm 5-7, and my jumpshot covers my right eye. I don't liek it, but can't change it. What's yours?

elbows in, back straight... some nights its greats, others it can be terrible. can never consistently shoot the ball with the same stroke

Re: OT: What's your jumpshot like.
deadly.
and the more i played the deadlier it got. however, if for some reason there was a long layoff, only some minor adjustments needed to be made and it was respectable, to good. to on again.
tons of advice over the years, but one simple one was one guy used to line his elbow up with the basket. widen your elbow out on your shot, and the shot goes wide. but line your elbow pointing with just wrist action from there . . . and the ball goes straight. now all you have to do is adjust strength. anyhow, that was one technique that might be helpful to some.

Re: OT: What's your jumpshot like.
Inconsistant streakiness, butter going left like Sedale, great depth, true jumper, different releases, on the other hand penetration game is below average (it's funny now that I think about it it was always d, ball handling skills, and shooting jumpers I never worked on a penetration game scared of getting hurt other than layup lines in H.S., lol), I make up for it with my D. I'm usually one of the few players that plays D on the court and bitch at anyone on my team not playing both sides of the ball. I'm not a leaper, but I have great timing on blocks at only 6'0".
Yeah, leave your height... 6'0" for me.
Dude is 6' 6" damn, dude go play in that 3 on 3 tourney at LA Live.

I practice by shooting with one hand to get the stroke right and get accuracy, then i add the other hand for balance after I get a good rhythm. Then it just becomes a muscle natural thing.
I still suck though, it's hard to get the habit. In game it completely changes because most of the time, you don't have balance and it's hard especially against defenders. But if you really warmup well and practice hard you can develop a good stroke. Take your time, don't try to be like Ray Allen and do it quick. I'm around your height as well so it usually takes some moves to break free and get a good look at a jumper.

It's funny though I didn't have range like that in high school, was more of a slasher.

Elbows in, good elevation, nice form and good follow through. My range isn't that great beyond the college 3 but in the midrange I'm quite solid and that's my game.

honestly, I wouldnt recommend copying ray allen's shot or kobe's( actually dont copy shots or copy game, from big players) if you're small and you have a weak wrist. ray allen uses only his wrist. try copying shots or game from pointguards like steve nash, chucky atkins, mike bibby, boobie gibson, farmar they use their elbow when they shoot.

Kobe, Dirk Nowitzki and Sasha Vujacic are the players I copied my shot from but yeah I like the suggestion of copying Farmar's shot using the elbows.

KG has a pretty good high release jumper though, very useful when shooting in traffic or with a hand in your face.

Re: OT: What's your jumpshot like.
<----Right-handed, decent form, elbows shoulder width, release above head 75% (roughly LOL) arm-extension, standing straight up, feet (roughly) shoulder width apart, 6'' jump because I rely on my right-wrist/arm too much ... I'm deadly with a one/one-two dribble set-up, but can be a good spot-up catch and shoot.
I can dribble for a fast-break stop-and-pop jump shot (since we're talking about jumpshots and not layups), but you can't count on me to create my own shot in the half-court, mainly because my dribble is too wide out.
My range reaches to about 1 foot in front of the 3 point line... I can shoot threes it's just not as pretty and MY form no longer exists LOL

butter when it's on.
My coach made me get one of those skill coach basketballs. official weight but 1.25? bigger than official. You have to put arch on it otherwise nothing but bricks. that and it helped on the handles and form.
My fall back is going back to the days of the pal league and imagining a rainbow and halo round the rim.... that's when my shots are high rainbows a la World B Free, behind the head....

It covers your right eye because you don't keep your body straight to the basket. It's not necessarily to keep your elbow straight. The most important thing is to put your shooting palm under the ball with your right hand leaning towards left a bit, just a bit. It's better and easier when you shoot by keeping your body straight to the basket( look at Ray Allen, Hamilton etc. ), they are all deadly consistent shooters, so am I striving to do. Kobe's masterized a much more difficult jump-shot, that helps him shoot in traffic. I tried once to copy Kobe's jump-shot, a couple of years a go, tried to jump as high as he does when he shoots, but during that period I was trying that, my jump-shot was completely flat, as I couldn't control my body and hands in the air( tons of airballs, flat shots hitting the glass ). So I decided to get back to my natural jump-shot, which is at the moment a pure european one, with a low raise, body straight to the basket, good arch( not always of course ) and quick release when shooting threes. The only thing I do like Kobe is releasing the ball with two fingers, the 2nd and 3rd one and the follow-through. When I shoot the mid-range, which sucks, I don't do the follow-through, just release and put my hands back because I'm not as comfortable as from the 3 pt. line.
How have I improved it ? Just looked at some of Ray Allen's videos and that really helped me at developing a consistent jump-shot. FTs, lots of FTs and choose one point and shoot shoot shoot.
