With odom signed now are we done with the off season?

I say we go after joe smith, sheldon williams , or even jon bender.

What do you guys think?

Done for the off season...

Time to work before the trading deadline...

Last two seasons Mitch has worked magic getting Gasol, Ariza, Shannon Brown and (to some extent) Morrison

I think either poor play or an injury will dictate the Lakers next move, Most likely @ PG but I could be wrong with a triumvirate of Fisher/Farmar/Brown. I look @ Brown to push Farmar or overtake him to become 2nd unit PG with Fisher's mins declining to keep him fresh.

So most likely any trades will be to free up cap space. As of now, Lakers aren't players in the 2010 big free agent season. I think the Lakers FA will at least try to free up enough $$ to get a vet hungry for a ring to improve the 2nd unit.

Yeah I got to say nothing but Williams but thats only 1 million. I think that makes 14 players though but I would send Ammo to the D league.

The Lakers are big players in the 2010 free agent season - as Sellers not buyers. They can use Ammo, Farmar and Yue to gain a valuable piece from a team looking for as many expirings as possible.

Have to take advantage of those poor suckers feeling like a Wade or Bosh or Amare or LBJ is going to leave their teams for greener pastures...

Well as I said last month and what made me freak out about not signing him but now that we have Odom along with Artest and Kobe all play makers if we keep a triangle coach or Phil we don't need a real pg so we can keep Bynum-Gasol-Odom-Artest-Kobe and basically get rid of everybody else for cheap versions if we want.
For this year I keep Ammo's contract to let it expire, let Sun walk.

Really they can do whatever they want as long as they keep the big 5. Can you believe it? Big 5. Amazing. One of those 5 is Kobe Bryant to.

Wait it out and see whos on the trading block then try to trade Ammo and/or Farmar if we really want to better our chances for a championship.

If the Lakers can trade the expiring contracts of Morrison and Farmar and either Josh or DJ for Hinrich that would solidify their PG position for years. Probably the Bulls wont do it but it does open up more cap space for them next summer. I tried it in the trade checker it does work LA sends Morrison, Jordan and DJ to the Bulls for Hinrich.

The PG position has to be the biggest need but it'll probably have to wait until the trade deadline. As far as free agency, they need some back-up big men, which you can never have enough of and some depth. I would really like to see them sign up useful back-up PG such as Marbury, Livingston etc. in anticipation of trading Farmar, Morrison, other exprirings for a starting PG at the deadline.

Sure out of the starting lineup, PG is the worst position for Lakers but I don't see any of the good PG free agents willing to sign with Lakers for vet min (the championship discount only goes so far) and those that are willing to sign for vet min are not much better and probably worse than Shannon Brown. Fisher is so clutch that he will always be the main guy late games when it matters. I think Laker's biggest need atm is at backup SG. A vet SG that can play 10-15 minutes when Bryant is resting without hurting the Lakers would be the best thing imho.

CJ Watson? Thoughts? He's quick, gets steals, shoots 3's, probably less than 2 mil a year with a sign-and-trade.

I've already faced that sad fact... I'm just talking about what Lakers need. Odom in rotation (barring injries) makes any C/PF unnecessary. Another PG to an already stacked position (3 PGs or 4 including Sun Yue) is also unnecessary until there is a good PG (like Artest situation) willing to come for cheap at MLE price next year that or if Fisher retires/accepts bench role. Walton is decent SF off bench.

So the only real need at the moment is a backup SG while Kobe rests. It is probably the only bench issue Lakers have this year. Take out Sun Yue and I think there is space for one more player.

Any injury to starters would hurt the Lakers. You could argue... what happens if Kobe gets injured *knock on wood* X infinity. You want Sasha playing SG... and who comes off bench for Sasha? A SG/SF would be perfect really, but at vet min its going to be hard. Most decent height SG should be able to play SF if needed. I remember seeing Sasha playing SF with Kobe playing SG.

Versatile players are usually a bit more highly sought after than one dimensional players which is why I stuck with a single position. I don't even think lakers will sign anyone honestly (maybe Sheldon Williams). Some of the fans here have unrealistic expectations like some player worth 5+ mil is going to come in and play for vet min. Best chance is to get an actual vet willing to take a paycut to play for championship.
