Possible free agent targets

Post#1 » by cbrown32 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 8:14 pm

"The Cavaliers are Powe's first choice for a new team, according to a source, with the Orlando Magic second. Dallas and the L.A. Lakers have also made inquiries about Powe, who suffered a third serious knee injury in Game 2 of Boston's first-round series against Chicago. Powe underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee a week later. The most optimistic scenario is a recovery time of six to eight months, with a February return the hoped-for date."

http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/d ... index.html

How much would he be asking for? If he can bounce back from his ACL tear, he would be a great presence off the bench. It does say this is his third serious knee injury though..not a good sign. Signing him would most likely give Josh Powell the axe, but he's much more of a beast down low. I do like Powell's 15 footer though...

Thoughts?

bench could look like

Powe

Sign him for a 1 year contract? I know its min risk but I'm not really sure if he'd be in any form fit enough to contribute meaningful minutes this season after such a long layoff.

i saw him against us and he was a beast. Having him would really put a thorn in the celtics butt huh.. hehe
but then again he's coming off from an acl.... it all depends on how he bounces back up after that.. I woudln't want to sign someone that would be burden..

I say 1 yr contract as well, but im afraid he's looking for some long term contract...

Leon Powe would be a sweet addition to our bench. we'd be very deep with him in there.

Fish/Brown/Farmar
Bryant/Vujacic
Artest/Odom/Walton
Gasol/Powell/Powe/Odom
Bynum/Gasol/Mbenga
2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick? Fultz, Ball or Bust

He won't be ready until February. By then, who knows how long it will take for him to get back into it. I'll pass.

Sofia I agree. Maybe sign him and put him in the D just so our comp can't use him but I rather go after lets say Sheldon Williams a healthy player who I can possibly teach the triangle to instead of just having an injured player coming in for spot up games basically.

We don't need a healthy player honestly, if he wants to sign a 1 year minimum contract with us we can handle waiting his injury out and let him study the offense. Once he does get healthy enough to play he can challenge Powell and Mbenga for minutes, best 2 outta the 3 could fill the PF/C garbage time.

I like it, but I'm more for Powell getting more minutes. Don't see that happening with Powe coming aboard.

I'd sign him, even if he wasn't up for 100% of the regular season since Powell is still on the team as an insurance.

Powe would be a great addition, but I think it's unlikely.

Now that we've waived Sun, perhaps the Lakers might revisit signing Shelden Williams.

Who goes? And how?

Mitch said the roster will have 13 contracts so somebody has to go then...

1-Fisher/2-Brown/3-Farmar
4-Kobe/5-Vujacic
6-Artest/7-Walton/8-Ammo
9-Pau/10-Odom/11-Powell
12-Bynum/13-Mbenga

Gasol/Powell/Powe/Odom

Holy smokes, how would that work?. If we had lost L.O, signing Powe would of been a good decision.

Since that's not the case, i don't see a need for this. :)

he'll get more money I think than we can do. I like him, but I also think he'll need a Dice like recovery time, which many be 2 years before he's back to good. Think Ammo's injury.

Pass. The Lakers will not add anyone unless we do a 2 for 1 trade or injury during the season.

We'll just have a log jam at PF since LO at sf didn't work out. No room or money for him, plus I see cleveland or orlando getting him before us.
