Re: Modern Era BE A GM Sign Up (1995-Present)
Quick question Sabas,
Can I switch either back to my orginial Sonics or move to the Mavericks?
I didn't know we were going to be doubling salaries (I switched prior) and there is no way in hell I want to be stuck with a roster that is paying Penny Hardaway a 9 year 144 million dollar contract when he is injuried for majority of the damn thing......

Re: Modern Era BE A GM Sign Up (1995-Present)
so is the first season's contraction draft based off how our rosters look in Jan 95? Seems kind of weird to do it mid-season, especially the season where my team adds a guy named MJ a few minutes later.

The Mavs are open, so you can have them if you'd like.
You could also consider using your one time amnesty provision to void that contract and release Penny into the dispersal pool if you like the rest of the team.

Ahh, I thought it was just for salaries under 800k?
Anyways, I'll just take the Mavericks.

Here's the quote from the first post:
One time amnesty provision: Any players making under 800k original salary may be cut without penalty; one player may be cut without penalty, regardless of salary.
Teams must start with at least nine players on their roster before the contraction draft.

Salaries still have to be doubled, but it looks pretty good. Did you cross check BBR and PST?

Yeah, I looked at BBR for the raw salaries and PST for sign dates.

I know, but still. I mean...that's seriously trash.
On a side note, Sabas: our amnesty clears any player's entire salary so long as this year's salary is under $800,000, correct?

Your salaries look perfect, CD. Pip's a hell of a deal for ya.
The amnesty allows you to waive one player who makes over 800k without penalty. You can trim as many players who make 800k or less as you like. It's a one time amnesty though, and it expires once the contraction draft commences.

So I can waive Jud to get his long term deal off with the amnesty clause. Sweet.

Yep, we're allowed one freebie - but once the contraction draft starts it's all on us.

Build a Dynasty seemed appropriate considering the span of the sim.

Re: Build a Dynasty(1995-Present)
Realized I misread the amnesty rule, I opted to waive Ron Harper instead under that rule. I may also waive Jud since I can do anyone under 800k.
Also, I'm listening to offers on anyone in the spirit of the game. I'm a Bulls fan though, so you'll have to come hard for the bigger players.

Re: Build a Dynasty(1995-Present)
Patrick Ewing is on the books for a balloon payment of over 18m (over36m adjusted) in '96, so it seemed to make sense to simply average his contract for the five years after he went to arbitration in '91. His average adjusted salary during those five years would be $13,389,880. His average raises were around 15%. The total of his extension that was ruled upon in arbitration was $66,949,400
IMO this is a fair adjusted number for his remaining terms:
1994/95: 15,000,000
1995/96: 17,000,000
1996: UFA
Nobody has the Knicks yet, but this should help whoever takes them.
ANOTHER NOTE: Due to the absolute foresight that we have as GMs, you can all imagine how valuable picks will be, especially in future drafts. Because all of the top players will be picked in a semi-predictable order and there aren't enough contributors in any given year to justify two rounds, all drafts are a single round, as stated in the original rules. This makes draft picks even more important. In past sims, picks have been a fairly migratory asset, but they are a very valuable future asset in this sim, especially for teams that may be picking high.
