Vonte Davis Signs

Post#1 » by GameTime_3 » Sat Aug 1, 2009 6:26 am

On Friday, eight days after the Dolphins signed second-round pick Sean Smith, they agreed to terms on a five-year deal with first-round pick Vontae Davis, according to Davis' agent Todd France.

Now, Davis and Smith will battle each other as well as free agent veteran Eric Green for the top of the depth chart opposite cornerback Will Allen.

Nice. All locked up before training camp. We're looking at our best secondary since Madison and Surtain.

Still very, very young. Sean Smith is still learning the position, which could take him another year or so to figure out. Vonte has proven to be solid when he puts his mind to it! But can he do it for an entire season.

2/3 years down the road i can see it but not this year.

It won't take much to be our best secondary since Madison/Surtain. It's been an area of weakness for years. Last year was our best in awhile and now with Wilson an upgrade over Hill at FS and a healthy Yeremiah our safeties should already be there. Having Will Allen on the other side should take a lot of pressure off the rooks. If one of them can step up as a starter and the other as the nickel we'll be in good shape. They don't need to be the stars of the secondary yet. Give them the 2/3 years until they're that but for now our secondary is in good shape.
