The Hit List: Tall Combo / PGs that could help the Lakers

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Sat Aug 1, 2009 12:06 pm

Mitch went from being an impotent GM (Butler for Kwame) and has become a master magician GM (Cook for Ariza), (Kwame for Gasol) and (Radmon for Brown + Ammo).

Props Mitch

So lets make a hit list of tall combo and PGs that can fill that classic Ron Harper type role so we can get our 3-peat on.

Don't worry about how to get the guys on the hit list... that is up for the best GM in sports, who has never won GM of the year (robbed), to figure out

K Hinrich Bulls
everyone add a name to the list that can help the Lakers out :D
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Best triangle point guard in the league when you combine in the Lakers defensive schemes = Chauncey Billups. Not happening btw.

Steve Blake is UFA next summer. He'd be a very nice addition to the roster IMO.

Obviously not the best PG around, but he's solid.

Kirk Hinrich is prototypical. Probably too much though.

Well Kirk Hinrick is the answer for fantasy land.

Believe it or not Shannon Brown has been guarding sg's his whole life so if he could work on his passing a little I would list him but i am gonna be realistic also and take our cap space into account and the fact that we have a big 5 and I don't think they would pay for a big 6 so to sum it up

Kirk hinrick- Ideal but unreal
Shannon Brown-Lets be happy with what we have, he works as a triangle
Gabe Pruitt-6'4 pg that we can get for the min. Why not. The C's waived him so maybe he sucks, he did go in the 2nd round but I like his size and potential for this team.

Even Duhon doesnt seem real but he would fit. I think the answer here is more of sg's who can play the point then 6'2 pg's.

Phil used to do this really cool defensive scheme in Chicago with Harper all the time. You guys know the 1. Can do it but not as well with a Duhon. Now a Hinrick or Brown or a sg who can handle the rock who can get away with it because you got 2 point forwards plus Kobe thats something else. See Odom is part of everything. That signing was huge.

Ha, nice one tkb. When Duke was the best team in the land he was always doing damage vs them, that continued in Ptown when he faced the Lakes, he's a tough kid.

I like him, but I'd prefer more of a fast quick penetrator that can get the LAL easy buckets and get them out in transition. I'd be dreaming if he could play above average D, hit a wide open shot, and be built like DFish. DFish but with sick quicks and speed would work .

He didn't forget though. Look at the original post and it says Kwame for Gasol. As much as we would love Kirk because it would put us over the top without a doubt in my mind it would probably be difficult to do. Unless Chicago doesn't care that much about the playoffs this season and wants to go for cap space. Clearing that big conract that Kirk has would be a plus to them. I think the only problem would be if the Lakers FO wants to pay that much money out of their own pockets.

I cannot see Fisher coming off the bench if we have Kirk. Phil would probably wind up having Lamar and Kirk coming off the bench which would be pretty sick. Since most people think the Lakers have the weakest bench out of the elites this would help us a lot. Plus with Kobe/Artest/Gasol/Bynum in our starting lineup we can deal with Fisher as the starting point.

I remember Odom saying after winning the chip he's going to work on his PG skills this offseason. Odom has been bringing up the ball up the court for the Lakers for a long time already.

But I don't recall Odom ever guarding the opposing teams' PG. We don't need a high price All Star PG to run the Lake Show. Just a solid defender against the Chris Paul's in this league. Fisher and Farmer will not cut it.

I'm going to miss Ariza. He had good spot duties when guarding Iverson and Billups.

And given the amount of PG's that got unloaded in this year's draft, I'm sure one of them will fall out of grace on one of their teams. We can grab them once they become available.

Good to see you around, SK.

Odom was our best defensive weapon one-on-one against Nash, back in the day. When gets down in his low defensive stance and spreads his arms, few PGs seem willing to attack one-on-one. Too bad Phil wouldn't utilize it.

Someone suggested something similar to this the other day, and I'd love to see this line-up. Many of us were hoping for a similar line-up last season, with Ariza in place of Artest, of course:

PG: Odom
SG: Artest
SF: Bryant
PF: Gasol
C: Bynum

The only defensive switching needed would be Artest and Kobe — both capable of handling a defensive mismatch.

Picture Bryant posting up, two all-star seven footers luring down low, Odom cutting through the lane, Artest spotting up for open threes...

Could Ramon Sessions help? How's his game. I hear nothing but good things from people I sort of trust. What's the profiling on him?

Heres some realtistic options:

1. Luther Head
2. Mike Taylor
3. Fred Jones
4. Gabe Pruitt
5. Rashad McCants
6. Salim Stoudamire

These guys are out there as free agents. Luther Head is the best two-way player of them all. Mike Taylor is the player most capable of defending the quick point guards of the league. Fred Jones is the most seasoned vet. Pruitt might have the most upside out of these guys. McCants is more of a shooting guard, but has proven he could be a 15 ppg player already. Stoudamire is the best pure shooter, but the weakest defender.

Blake is OK in the regular season, but you can't tell me you've forgotten how he played in the playoffs ? Blake has sand for brains in clutch situations......I'll pass.
