Big AL All-Star?

Post#1 » by stiles21 » Sat Aug 1, 2009 5:52 pm

I know it's too early to talk about it, but Shaq's on the east coast now and Yao Ming is out for the season, If Jefferson does come back healthy (I really have no idea what his status is right now and if he'll be ready for the start of the year) could this be the year he makes the All-Star Team? Is he gonna be listed as a Center or Power Forward? And who is better then him at that position? Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol(on a winner and international love) , Amire(fan favorite), Boozer( if he stays ), Dirk, Blake Griffen(not sure why i put him)? Where does Big AL fit in to the picture? Al's got my vote at least.

At forward he has ZERO chance. At center, still might be a longshot. Others in competition with him:

Amare Stoudemire - Shaq is gone, so he'll likely be listed at center. *Early favorite to be voted in.
Andrew Bynum - Unlikely to get enough stats with stacked lineup.
Emeka Okafor - Chris Paul made David West an all-star.

Other possibilities include Mehmet Okur, Andris Biedrins, and Nene.

Coming off the injury and with how terrible we are gonna be I'd probably say no.

The guys you mentioned:

Tim Duncan - Has never been listed at center.
Pau Gasol - Will likely be listed at PF.
Carlos Boozer - Listed at PF.
Dirk Nowitzki - Clearly a PF.
Blake Griffin - A PF, but I won't be surprised if he receives more votes than Jefferson.

Tim Duncan (SA) 2,578,168
Amare Stoudemire (Pho) 1,460,429
Bruce Bowen (SA) 1,392,398

yea, I feel like playing for a small market and not be a high charisma guy really hurts him. So i guess it up to the coaches to put him in. I feel like people don't understand what this guy can do down in the post and how much fun it is to watch him go to work. We should start calling him "The Best Kept Secret".

They'll vote for Amare who'll slide down to C.
Voting only matters for the starters though. Coaches don't look at that. Put up great numbers, and you'll be recognized (hopefully)

How the heck did Bowen get the third most forward votes?

duncan will likely be listed at C this year, he was always listed as PF in the past because they knew he had no chance of overtaking Yao in the vote.

He was always listed at PF before Yao was around too.

The biggest BS award goes to Yi Jianlian voters, Jianlian got 1,813,829 votes (3rd in the East)

As long as Al plays well and the team as a whole plays at the pace or better of last year, I think he has a chance. Last year there were many in the media who repeatedly said he was snubbed. People know that Al could have been an all-star last year. I think think some coaches will make it up to him.

On top of that Love is bringing the wolves a some much needed attention. On top of that, Flynn looks like another one of those guys that the powers that be will to get behind and if Flynn plays as excitingly as he seems to be capable of, that will help our cause. Then if Rubio came over as well, I think we would have sufficient enough media spotlight to help the coaches decide to put Al in.

We are all forgetting one major factor:

If our next head coach is Mark Jackson, his then former coworkers at ESPN won't want to bash him/us. Meaning we might actually hear something positive about us on ESPN.

Another great point. WE are poised to have a slight bump up in media relations this season and that compared to where we were last year was a HUGE step up.

Tim Duncan was listed at center though. Do you not remember the controversy a few years back, Walker was listed at Guard and Duncan was listed at C. They had to do an emergency switch of positions for Duncan to get him voted in

Another snub unless he lifts his game to a superstar level.

If this is the list from last year, I would say that Al Jefferson is easily better than the other centers on that list (aside from Yao). But with Yao out for the season and Shaq's popularity gone - he may have a chance. He was pretty beastly before he went down with that injury.
