His average adjusted salary during those five years would be $13,389,880. His average raises were around 15%. The total of his extension that was ruled upon in arbitration was $66,949,400

IMO this is a fair adjusted number for his remaining terms:
1994/95: 15,000,000
1995/96: 17,000,000
1996: UFA

Nobody has the Knicks yet, but this should help whoever takes them.

Yeah, the way they used to be able to sign 8-9 year deals really makes this game tough. It makes players that were good until their injuries damn near useless in the game.

With Penny Hardaway being the prime example. There is going to be quite a few good players that are going to be hit with that amensty clause.

We are only allowed to use it prior to the first draft correct? We can't save it until later on in the game?

I was wondering when someone would snag them - young, fast, interesting squad for sure.

Nine spots left!

CB - you're right about that Penny contract. It's a tough one to justify restructuring because of the incremental increases instead of a balloon payment. Nothing is set in stone, so if other GMs decide it's necessary to restructure a contract, so be it. Whoever takes the Magic probably have a decent case.

I don't think we should should change anything about the overall amount paid to the players. Everyone gets one freebie to get rid of those contracts.

If we do anything, people should have the chance to restrucre the 8-9 year contracts. So they aren't paying 12 million one season and 28 million another season. When you are doubling the contract, the difference between paying a man 6 million and 14 million is much different than paying a guy 12 million and 28 million in terms of capspace.

Maybe allow people to have the choice to pay them an average salary over the course of the contract as opposed to paying them 12 million when they are the best player in the league and 28 million when they are damn near worthless?

I think that's a fair solution.

ex. Penny's contract would be 16m per season, expiring in '03?

Yeah. I'd just leave it at a flat average over the course of the contract so people don't keep players like that and put them on a type of declining contract; that would seem pretty cheap IMO.

Another suggestion.

We should do without the 2nd round and just allow all the guy's that go undrafted in the 1st round to get directly into free agency.

Since we essentially know exactly how majority of the players turn out, it's going to be hard to even find 20 guy's worth drafting in the 1st round each year.

I just don't want to spend 3 days doing a 2nd round draft on something that will have little to no impact on the game.

The drafts are only one round long for those exact reasons. Picks (especially high ones) will be REALLY valuable.

I see your first year salaries, but can you post the duration of the contracts as well? They can be figured using http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/Search/Search.php and bbr.

Welcome to the game!

If we're having trouble getting 20 participants, why not just cut it to 14 or 16? Have the top eight teams face off in the playoffs, and the rest can be lottery teams. Teams will be deeper and more teams have better chances of striking gold in the lottery.
