Bryant Extension Talks Expected To Begin This Month

Post#1 » by kooner » Sat Aug 1, 2009 7:43 pm

how much do you guys think kobe is looking for yearly and how many years. If i was Jerry buss i will be willing to pay 105-120mill over period of 4 year, that's a fair amount of money for the best player in the world and arguably the best or second best to play the game. Remember he was getting like 50mill a year, plus a villa, a yacht and other stuff. If you were management what would you offer kobe and if you were kobe how long and how much would you want. I think Jerry Buss was willing to pay 80-90mill over 3 years which is also fair. What would you offer or what would you want.

"Mitch Kupchak said he and his staff will now "turn to the future, beyond this season."

All indications are that the Lakers and Kobe Bryant will discuss an extension.

Bryant said he was content to let the organization take care of unrestricted free agents Trevor Ariza, Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom before beginning extension talks with him.

``Mitch has a lot on his plate,'' Bryant said during an interview in early July. ``I'd rather him take care of those pieces first. But he'll get around to me.''

Kobe is smart for waiting. Now he can basically ask for any amount without free agents getting in the way. But i think it'll be in the mid 20s or very close to 30s.

lets hope it's productive and kobe gives the lakers a discount hehe.

How about 4 years and 100 million. Give Buss a break. He went and got you the talent needed to be where you are at the top of the NBA and a 4 going on 5 time champion. There are so many out of work. Kobe. Think....

There might be 2 players were you don't really have to think about it. Max years max money. Now I would hope Kobe would offer to take less to keep the team more competitive but I can't be mad if he doesnt.

I really doubt he tries to give Kobe a 3 year deal. Kobe is gonna be wanted for more then that but even so would he even care? He can be a free agent every year if he wants and doesn't have to worry.

Jerry Buss should just pay Kobe 30 million a year and put in a clause that Kobe has to play that 30 million in a poker game against Buss at the end of the year.

when it comes to players like Kobe, age is irrelevant at this stage. MJ, KAJ, Karl Malone were well worth max money in their mid 30's. he wont decline to a noticeable degree where he wont be worth max money till he is past 35.

he will go through stages where his minutes will be less and his hops wont be there, but the level of a scoring threat to other teams will always be there. he will find ways to score no matter how old he is.

I think that at this stage Kobe should go for a Magic type deal where he took a lot less money for a long, long time in exchage for a piece of ownership of the team.

Is that legal? I didn't know that is how Magic got to be part owner.
i don't see Kobe doing that. As for his game he already did the adjusting part that MJ got so famous for the midrange and I think Kobe will actually the 3 point shot not just like he has it now but I think he will eventually be the best 3 point shooter ever. I wouldn't worry about Kobe being on the decline. I do think somebody needs to tell him to have that surgery and rest though. If I was Phil I would have him skip the entire preseason and try and keep his minutes to 32 if possible with the stacked team.

I don't remember the specifics, but I think (and please somebody correct me if I am wrong) his had a clause of like 25 million for 20 years in the organization before he would be allowed to buy up to 5% or something like that.

You are correct. Back in the 80's he signed a 25 year 25 million dollar deal. That was of course a different time and different set of rules. I am not positive if his ownership stake was part of the deal. Regardless, Buss allowed him to buy the 5% stake because of his love for Magic more than anything else.

But... there is no way any kind of deal like that could be possible for a player in todays league.

Kobe should sign an extension to his already 2 years 48 million remaining. Something like 3 year 85-90.

Which would give Kobe--- 5 @ around 130-135. With an average around 26 million per. That's fair and well compensated.
Cheers. — Mags

When Magic un-retired on 9/29/92 that voided his original deal, he then went 21 months without ownership. When he decided to reacquire his 5% it was on 6/27/1994, it was subject to league approval unlike the first time.
