Celtics sign Shelden Williams

Looks like we have a Leon replacement, not necessarily a Baby one. Interesting. Maybe a few more dominoes will fall now. There aren't going to be that many minutes for our 4th and 5th bigs anyway, barring injury.

Nice. That means no swift, right? Perfect.

He seems like that Patrick O'Bryant type of signing from last year. But the difference is, unlike last year, this wasn't our key signing. Just a leon replacement. It sucks to see leon go, but injuries happen.

Interesting. How's his health? I haven't heard anything about him since he was drafted by the Hawks.

Good Signing. Provides frontcourt depth at a cheap price. Ainge has always liked him.

Maybe it opens options for trading Baby for another wing or even a backup point, since he already brought on a big.

Its crazy bc spears is also saying the Celtics are struggling on the sign and trade for Daniels...IMO danny def. has a player in mind and needs the LLE to make it happen....overall some real nice pick ups this off-season...Sheldon is a low risk high reward type of player....

yeah BBD >>>> shelden

hopefully we still keep Baby.
Shelden is really a 5th big (instead of scal).
definiltely means no swift or rogers or whoever, which is probably for the best.

i assume shelden got the vet min...

Glad spears is saying this. I really don't think it was ainge's thought of replacing BBD with Shelden. But replacing Swift with Shelden.

Yay.

Even though, I think Candace is the better baller. :D

He's got a Jones for Gingers that not even Scal can satisfy!

I followed Shelden when he was in college... I liked his game. However, I don't know why it didn't translate into the NBA...

Does he need to bring up his skill level? Is he too slow?

Its weird, his overall numbers were pretty good last year for a backup, though he didn't always play. He is apparently a well above average overall rebounder and offensive rebounder who is abysmal with putbacks. Solid defensively, and with shotblocking. Not really sure why he gets so little playing time, even with his offensive shortcomings. I really like this move and didn't even realize that Williams was a free agent.

I haven't seen much of Shelden Williams since his Duke days. He was decent then but then again the pro's are a different game altogether. He's a similar player to Powe but just bulkier. From what I can remember he has a better jumpshot than Powe but I doubt he's any quicker. The only plus is he's not injury prone that I know of. Can the Celtics shape him into a decent role player? Possibly. Either way he's a cheap gamble (can't imagie they signed him for loads of money) with a more upside than downside. He's definitely no Patrick O'bryant.

He has very solid defensive potential. Offense I'm not real sure. Is there word as to whether this contract is guaranteed?
