Many believe that the NBA's current revenue system is broken and that the league is headed for a lockout in 2011.
The Board of Governors' Labor Relations Committee is set to meet with the National Basketball Players Association on Tuesday to begin discussing a new collective bargaining agreement.
Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert, Phoenix's Robert Sarver and Oklahoma City's Clay Bennett are all on the committee. The league's last lockout occurred in 1997, when the owners last wanted to make serious changes.
Finding an in between is going to be difficult with the owners and players jostling for percentage points of the league's revenue.
I'd say Uncle Benny has the most to gain from a restructured CBA. He just moved into a small market. He has an outstanding young stable in thanks to Presti. His young studs won't be due for a new contract until the Collective Bargaining Agreement has been resolved. Maybe with the new CBA Bennett can afford to pay for all 4 of the young studs instead of only being able to afford 3 when they are looking to re-sign.
The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Bennett is scratching Sterns back with co-heading the charge on this.
