Signing Ivey means either no one else wanted Ivey or the Sixers struck out elsewhere, Sounds harsh, but that is the reality.

This is what our bench looks like

Bench:
PG Jrue Holiday
PG Royal Ivey
SG Willie Green
SF Jason Kapono
PF/C M-16
PF/C Jason Smith

IMO, Royal Ivey takes a roster spot. This is NOT a good signing. Jrue Holiday could've played that defensive PG Role. We should've went after Mike Taylor. A PG/SG that can play next to a Jrue.

Ideally, if we had signed Mike Taylor, Bruce Bowen, Ryan Hollins this is what it'd look like:

Bench:
PG Jrue Holiday
PG/SG Mike Taylor
SG/SF Bruce Bowen
SG Willie Green
SF Jason Kapono
PF/C M-16
PF/C Jason Smith
C Ryan Hollins

That's a solid bench.

Was under the impression Sixers were going to sign a veteran set-up guy, as opposed to a defensive combo guard. Trying to find out if they couldn't get anybody else, but haven't heard back.

re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

I'm upset about this signing not because Ivey stinks, which he does, but right now I don't expect to get anyone that either will:
1) Make an appreciable difference on the outcome of our season
2) be a part of our long term plans

So, even with those drastically lowered expectations, this deal still pisses me off. Because not only do we not accomplish either of the two objectives above, but because of the chance that Ivey will be taking regular minutes in the rotation, minutes that should go to either Jrue or Lou's development. If we can't contend, and we can't get a piece that be a long time contributor (a la sessions), let the kids take their lumps and develop as players rather than throwing out crap like Ivey.

Get the impression that Ivey will be more of a spot player, unless Holiday really struggles. Of course, plans can change, too.

This Ivey signing definetly is not up there on list of moves I wanted. Besides, what does it tell you about a player who opts out of his contract and then comes back to you bc he has no better options? Its like a girl dumping you and then crawls back and you except her. You only take her back if that girl is a stunner! Royal Ivey is no stunner.

Anywho, what is it with this team not being able to get someone who is a SG?

Heard the Sixers wanted Ivey back because of his size and defense.

Didn't we just draft someone with size and defense?

More like they wanted Ivey back because of piss poor planning.

Are you ready for Primoz Brezec? Told European report that Sixers are close to signing him may be correct. My source said talks are “advancing,” but nothing is definite.

Brezec, who is 7-1, played in Italy last year after spending seven years in NBA, averaging 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds. He's from Slovenia.

I like that signing. A big body, and he can score. Don't see him playing, though, unless there's an injury or a trade.

At least Brezec offers us another 7 footer.

this is almost as big as the phillies getting cliff lee! ok maybe not

primoz brezec...seriously?

whats left after this? Armon Gilliam?

Luther Head or Arroyo was so much more the better decision than Ivey. That one kills me.

So Tom..do you get the impression that Ivey is the backup point and now all that is left(assuming Brezec signs is the SG/SF? Could that be a Christmas or Kurz? Or are we going after a Carney? I am not hearing anything recently.......mostly cuz there is nothing to talk about.

SF, I think they're looking for a backup 3 essentially to round out the roster. Yes, Ivey will be the third point guard. There's a chance they'll look at a guy like Christmas or Kurz as the 14th man, but may or may not happen.

Trying to get a list of the 3s they're looking at, but haven't heard names other than Carney, who I believe they're trying to wait out.
