OT - could KD be better than LJ?

Post#1 » by djericho » Tue Aug 4, 2009 12:35 am

It's pretty much slowed down this off season and I saw this interesting tidbit..

Could Durant eventually be better than Lebron?

I personally think so. right now Lebron >>> Durant but I think given his work ethic and basketball IQ, if Durant can stay out of trouble I think he may dethrone King James....

thoughts?

Durant is a scorer. Lebron is a threat from three areas. Scoring, passing, and rebounding. I don't think so sorry. Maybe scoring?

I'd say LeBron is better at D too.

Durant is a beast, I like him, but he isn't as good as LBJ and probably will never be. He will always be better than Oden though :D

As a scorer, yeah, KD is probably more talented. As a distributor that makes his team better, obviously LeBron. As a defender, Durant has a ways to go.

so two out of three Lebron is better than KD, and KD will never be a better passer, rebounder or defender than Lebron, maybe a George Gervin type scorer, a guy who can fill it up, but his teams don't win much cuz he dosen't make his teamates better.

Poor comparison.

I don't think so. Lebron is a stronger passer and rebounder, defender and right now the better scorer too. KD is more versatile but unless he fills up and plays more like a natural SF he could be in comparisons.

He failed to bench 180 lbs and you'd think most SFs like Artest, Melo etc would have an easy time posting him up.

I think Durant has as much upside as anyone in the league including Lebron, but Lebron is better right now so we'll see what kind of strides Durant makes in the next 3 or 4 years. He has the tools to be a great rebounder and defender, but like others have said, he'll never be the playmaker than Lebron is.

I just made a post on the new player hype in the Lakers look to future topic.

LJ is Larry Gold tooth 4-point play Johnson.

You are overhyping a guy because he is breaking out.

What have the Thunder won??? How many winning seasons do they have??? They do have some good players.

Young exciting talent -> overhype -> get use to it -> eventually people talk about why they never got it done -> rebuild and restart cycle.

The THUNDER WILL NOT WIN A TITLE IN THE NEXT 15 YEARS DURANT
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

I'm probably the biggest non-Thunder Kevin Durant fan there is. The kid has so much upside it's scary. Give him some time, I think when Kobe hangs 'em up and LeBron is the class of the league, KD will be right behind him. At the very least, he can become the best scorer in the game. 6-10, freakishly long, about as pure a shooter as there is in the game and he has unlimited range. Plus by all accounts he's a hard worker and he's still a kid. He has all the tools to be right up there with Bron in terms of skills and effectiveness IMO

lbj, because will make it that way. We see how the league pampered lbj from the start. KD is more of a silent killer. Until Nike puts a KD add on tv.. he's not going to be better than lbj hehe jk

Kevin is a remarkable, player. He needs someone to slap him, so he will realize how good he is/can be. But seriously he is still a boy and needs to put on some weight, get over confident and approach the game fiercly and he will be an elite player one day. Plus his wingspan is ridiculous!

I've followed him since his Texas days and I'm telling you he's going to be something special. He must be one of the deadliest scorers in the league right now and he's only 20 years old. He's great rebounder and after they shifted him to SF spot he averaged at least 7 or 7.5 rpg. He has great work ethic and he has tools to become good defensive player. From his rookie season he even improved his passing game but that's only negative right now with him but I have feeling he is going to be just fine. He doesn't have all around package that LeBron has but 3-4 years from now he's going to be in MVP discussion every year.

1st off- Lebron is better than KD right now, but the question asks if KD "COULD" be better than LBJ.
IMO-YES....why? KD's work ethic.
For the record why do so many fans think Lebron is at the top of making his teammates better??? Just because LBJ has the ball in his hands for god knows how long to "create" a basket either for himself or others, doesnt neccessarily show that he makes his teammates better. Watch film...look at his teammates...at most possessions they are just standing still waiting for an open jumper! OK LBJ will find an open jumpshooter but does that make that player better??? Now lets focus on how KD makes his teammates better. FACT-KD is a way better OFF BALL scorer than Lebron. So scoring on off ball situations needs teammates setting screens, ball movement, cuts and floor balance. Hmmmm it seems like when KD scores OFF ball his teammates are getting involved in the play and from that a player could improve their on floor game. Lets just wait and see the improvement on Russell Westbrook because KD's off ball scoring greatly depends on how westbrook reads the floor. Now if westbrook was on LBJ's team he better work on his jumpshot because learning how to play PG in the NBA isnt really an option with the KING. One more point...JORDAN. go ahead check out Jordan's gameplay during his championship years. If you watch him carefully he moves without the ball so well, letting pippen run the offense while jordan picks his spots. All Im saying is that Lebron has a HUGE flaw to his game and I really dont see him and Wade (might i add) fixing it!

I brought this up Durant's rookie year and got laughed at although I didn't say he will be better then Lebron. I think he is about to be a top 5 player this year though.

Durant wont be as a good rebounder and passer maybe later on in his career like 3-4 years we can fight about who is better lebron or durant but kobe will still be GOD.

No way in hell. LeBron impacts the game in far more ways then Durant. Also keep in mind while KD improves, Lebron is improving as well. KD would have to have a CRAZY jump in his game to get ahead of Lebron IMO.

LeBron has the heart and drive that Kevin Durant doesn't possess yet. I don't think Kevin knows how good he could be....

Could he? Sure
Will he? That's the real question.
