Boston Receives Good News On Hudson

What are the chances he still makes this team? I think we should definitely give him the same opportunity we gave Gabe. Dude seems like a competitor.

The Celtics received some good news on second-round pick Lester Hudson recently.

Hudson sustained a broken finger during the Orlando Summer Pro League, but is expected to begin training in three weeks.

Boston waived Gabe Pruitt last week, which has opened up a spot for Hudson on the team's roster.

I'd like to see this guy get a chance. Danny has been great at spotting late-pick talent. Hudson comes on as 14th, 15th man and maybe goes to D league for most of the year.

I'm happy for him,I thought this injury would linger into the season.Hopefully Danny holds on to him I think he might be worth the while.

excellent. i hope he sticks. it's unlike DA to give up on an asset before seeing what he has. unless he could be convinced to go Euro (which i think actually sucks for player development anyway), i think we sign him and let him tear up the NBDL like JR and Billy did.

I think this kid will surprise. His gawdy numbers didn't drop for the real teams. His defense is very good. I'd rather have him on the roster than Steph...

We'll see. But the only way he's going to make the roster is as a 3rd PG, not a homeless man's Eddie House. I don't see him being successful in that role but we'll see..

I think the chances are good that Hudson gets a chance to play his way onto the roster in Training Camp.

Starting 5, House, Wallace, Daniels, Williams, Tony, Scal, JR, Billy, and Baby makes 14. Frankly, I just don't believe the Lue/pg or Bowen rumors, so, if Baby is re-signed Hudson (and probably Swift) fight it out for 15th spot. If Baby is not re-signed, then the C's will keep Hudson, and maybe Swift, too.

Well, unlike the real Eddie House, Lester Hudson can handle the ball, bring it up against pressure, penetrate the lane and dish, and create his own shot. Other than that, yeah, they're pretty similar.

Hmm, maybe against scrubs in the Ohio Valley conference or Orlando summer league. We have no idea if can do any of those things in the NBA. I'm confident he can knock down an open jumper, however Lester is not super athletic. I could see him struggling to get his shot against NBA defenders..

Eddie House is the one who can't get his shot off against NBA defenders....

The thing Hudson has going for him are incredibly long arms, a good handle, and the ability to penetrate. He can also very comfortable shooting off-the-dribble, or spotting up, or, if need be, using a fall-away to get his shot off. Unlike a guy like Eddie House, who basically catches-and-shoots, Hudson has a variety of ways of scoring and that makes him a much tougher guard.

Eddie House is a NBA proven specialist, and a darn good one! You want to bring Eddie in, off the bench, to bomb 3's off the catch and shoot. If he is on, you ride him until he cools off...and that could be 20+ points later! If he's not on, you really would rather him not be on the court. Eddie is also a +++ FT shooter, so having him in at end of games when you're ahead and fouls are raining down is a very good thing. Boston's problem has been that House had to be on the court for long periods when he was not hot...not good.

Lester Hudson is an 2nd round draft pick with no obvious +++ specialty. Hudson projects as more of a generalist combo guard...he can bring the ball up, hit an open 3 (or long 2), penetrate and score or dish, pass, and defend pg's. What we do not know is if he can do any, or all, of that at the NBA level. DA must have thought he had a chance to make the roster, or he wouldn't have drafted him. I think he will get the chance to try to earn a spot in training camp. Beyond that, it's all up to him.

I think Hudson will get a preseason look. But unless he really impresses, I would be pretty surprised if he made the team. I think the Cs would prefer a more traditional vet PG as the emergeny PG.

Actually, we do not really know if he can create his own shot, penetrate and dish, and bring the ball up against pressure - in the NBA. I want to see him succeed, but with such a stacked team already, if there was a more reliable veteran PG available then that would be the most practical addition for a championship THIS YEAR. The fact he hurt his finger just makes it worse, not that it will actually hurt all year but things like that will mess with a rookies head.

Not getting to see more of him in the summer league was disappointing. Obviously I didn't watch many of his team's games in college, so I was hoping that the summer league would shed more light on his skills. It seems like Ainge will use that 15th spot to either sign a guy like Bowen cheap or if that doesn't work out, give the spot to Hudson.

In other words, if Hudson makes the roster, it will be more as a Plan B than the main Plan A. But when you're talking about the 15th guy on a roster, there's not much to gain between Plan A and Plan B.

What about Chris Lofton, did we give up on him? IMO he was the best player on our team in summer league. His shooting makes him a dangerous utility player to have. Eddie, Lofton, Ray, Paul, Sheed would be a really good lineup to throw out when in need of a 3.

With Hudson, I don't know what we'll get, but then again, he only got to play one game in SL.
