because it's not just about next year. if he plays for the QO and ends up a UFA, we'll be in a position to have to pay him or replace him on the open market. the question is, can we lock him up long-term at a more friendly deal than we can replace him with? i'd be very happy to give him 3 yr, 9 mil. sure he has limitations but he also has some big asse(t)s.

I suppose. But just because he will become an UFA doesn't mean he will cost a ton more. He will play limited minutes for us, IMHO. So I don't see the great concern. The C's cant really lose.

you mean like Gortat? dude hardly played and got the full MLE -- from 2 teams! GMs aren't going to forget what BBD did in the playoffs last year. i'm not saying BBD would get the full MLE since he's not a 7 fter, but a 4/5 who can hit a 17 footer consistently and play decent D is worth more than 3 mil a year.

^^^
Carl Landry got 3M a year and had better numbers during the regular season in his rookie year. Brandon Bass put up significantly better numbers then Big Baby last year and was unrestricted and got 4M a year. I think 3M a year is pretty close to Big Baby's value seeing as he is restricted, has a lot of limitations, had a subpar regular season but had a decent playoffs.

BTW, Big Baby has been tweeting up a storm in the last few minutes...it doesn't look like anything is close.

I'll be glad when this dangling BBD issue is resolved. He's (or whoever we trade him for) really the only major piece we have to square away. There are several options for a backup PG, so that's not really a problem. I'd love to have Baby back.
