***FantasyTime*** So T-Mac is back...

Post#1 » by Ribalding » Sat Aug 1, 2009 10:03 pm

- Let us assume T-Mac comes back a few weeks before the trade deadline. Maybe before the All-Star break. He is crazy healthy.

- Let's us then also assume he comes back in Pre-Broke-Ass-T-Mac-Form. (Yeah, I know this is a stretch, but wait for me, ok?)

- T-Mac magically returns as some Tyrannosaurus-Lookin-Jumper-Hittin-Hole-Gettin-To-Freak of his former self. The whole league says "oooohhh...ahhhh". (Bear with me. This is the best I can do in August.)

It's January '10. The planets have aligned.

What do you do with T-Mac?

It won't change the fact that he's a rapist lovin' c*cksucker. I'd trade his ass to Memphis.

Ride him to the end of the season. A "Pre-Broke-Ass-T-Mac-Form" has historically been able to carry a team of 3pt shooters into the Playoffs.(Can't carry them any further, but that's another topic.)
Current roster-Brooks,Ariza,Battier,Budinger,Barry,perhaps Anderson,Taylor-full of 3pt shooters.
Esp if he does a locker-room I'm sorry" bit that the team leaks, the Rockets will not suffer too much financially and can stockpile for next yr when a lot of teams might be having fire sales draft day.

You keep him for the year because on JULY 1,he becomes magic w/the Tracy McGrady FILL-IN-THE BLANK-CONTRACT. The McGrady FITBC can be for any amount the Rockets need for a sign-n-trade. Throw in a couple of Firsts and a team facing the loss of a star has an attractive option. Until the League cracks down, the FITBC doesn't even have to be guaranteed,so he could be bought out instantly.
The Rockets could use the FITBC to target just about any player they like. Someone is bound to make a deal.

If T-Mac returns to his 2005 self by the trade deadline and the Rockets are in a position to make the playoffs I would have to keep him for the last year of his contract. If we are already so far out of playoff contention that it would just be a pipedream to think we could make anything happen then I would not be averse to trading him for some younger talent so we could prepare for the next year.

Make the best decision business-wise.

If we get an offer that has more future value to the franchise than the cap relief he will provide then take it, regardless of how our team is doing. Picks, youth, players with value on good contracts. If they can't get some combo of that then ride out the season and see what Morey can do with the extra cash next offseason.

well since this is his last season on contract he's gonna have a good year, then he'll resign for a max deal, then somehow he gets injured till the last year of his contrac,t then he'll push for a 2 year mid level deal. play 20 games in those seasons, then sign a lucrative contract in the euroleague

Without his mini-fro slowing him down, he should be back to the old Mac.

He should get a mo-hawk in honor of the greatest American player the Euro League has ever signed: Von Wafer.

I've wondered why the Rockets haven't signed acquired a SG. Taylor is basically Wafer's replacement. Ariza is a SF,not a true SG,nor is Battier. Which reminds me of early last season when Brooks had his ankle problem and Morey said he wasn't going to look for another PG,that the team would make do til Brooks returned(which he did after missing only 1 game). Really starting to wonder if the Rockets believe McGrady will be ready a heck of a lot faster than most assume.

For what it's worth from Wash Post Basketball insider:
"...I had to ask the MVP how Arenas looked during some star-studded scrimmages this week in Chicago, where Arenas, James, Dwyane Wade, Tracy McGrady, Jermaine O'Neal, Andre Iguodala and Quentin Richardson are said to have played."
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... rdsinsider

If McGrady is playing in scrimmages(controled by Grover) against some of the league's best, that's a heck of a step from starting basketball drills. i know that there could be misinfo in that McGrady is there working out and got mistakenly included as a participant.
I just find it interesting that the Wash papers are able to interview Arenas, interview other players about Arenas, talk to their new coach about the several trips he's made to check on Arenas and there's been almost nothing on McGrady from Houston.

Before T-Mac comes back I'm thinking our rotations is going to be:

PG Aaron Brooks / Kyle Lowery
SG Trevor Ariza / Jermaine Taylor
SF Shane Battier / Chase Budinger
PF Louis Scola / Carl Landry
C Chuck Hayes / David Andersen

Andersen may start fs he comes into camp more NBA ready than I'm expecting.

We haven't signed a SG because we're out of roster spots and money for the year, as it stands we are already VERY close to luxery tax.

czarleon09,
I can understand the roster, but let's be honest,White could be waived and Barry bought out and that would free up a spot. Or look at what Minn took for Richardson,a package of Cook,Barry and Lowry would have been more than enough, and Conroy played well enough that he could barely replace Lowry. And the Lux Tax is big I agree, but on other hand the Rockets should get min $8-10mil from Yao's insurance and that would cover alot of Lux Tax.
The point is if the Rockets wanted another SG they would have gotten one. Ariza,Battier,Budinger even White may play at the SG spot, but they are really SFs-and complemetary ones at that. Barry is no spring chicken and I don't see the team counting on him for heavy minutes.

I agree w/your rotations, except I think Andersen is going to be given every chance to start in training camp, and I expect he'll be starting unless he gets killed on defense.

tisbee,
Does a cut player count against the salary cap? I thought the Rockets used the insurance money from Yao's injury to sign Ariza. I'm hoping your right about Andersen but I'm trying not to get to optimistic until I see him play.
