Re: OT: Giants extend Manning
he's only making 35 guaranteed which is less than big ben and less than stafford.
but then again whatever, nobody will respect eli because he doesn't put up fantasy numbers ... lets forget the most important stat which is wins and that ever since he became the starter he led his giants team to the playoffs ever since and this season may be for the 5th time in a row.

you do know steve smith is one of the best possession recievers in the nfl ... but maybe you hate great hands and great routes from your wide recievers.

Eli may not have the best fantasy numbers, but how many times have the Giants won in the 4th quarter coming from behind an Eli rally. Wins are more important than fantasy numbers. A tough QB is a lot better than a QB who puts up numbers in the regular season and become a complete ghosts when you need him the most.

SS is gonna make a big contribution this year. He has worked a ton in the offseason knowing he was getting a shot to be no. 1. He's gonna be much better on the outside.
btw, game on the line, there are probably only 2 Qb's I want leading my team on a drive. Maybe ben, but that's a toss up. Eli's QB rating in the last 2 minutes of a game either tied or losing was best in the league last year. nuff said.

if i'm the giants i still keep smith as the possession reciever because he's too good at it ... hixon has tremendous talent and nicks will contribute bigtime this year because he played in a pro style offense at unc.
the guy who i'm more excited about is kenny phillips who before the season is over will be a top 5 safety in the nfl ... he's that damn good.
also excited about clint sintim who i've always wanted, superb pass rusher to an already superb passrushing group of monsters. oh, yeah and osi is back ... the giants backups will be robbins, coffield, and kiwi ... those 3 can start on every team.
the db's are good too with c-web and terrell.
nobody can't question one of the best(if not the best) gm in the nfl, jerry reese.

Re: OT: Giants extend Manning
There are questions regarding the receiver corp of the Giants, but that is about it. With them, you say it is questions. You don't say it sucks. Hixon showed he can break it. You also have Smith who is a solid receiver. Manningham has a chance to be a gamebreaker, as does Moss. Add in the mix Nicks, and Barden (HUGE size).
Need to wait and see on what happens here, but don't sleep on the Giants.

KnicksFan7 wrote:The receiver argument is old. Burress was the number one guy who he had the best chemistry with. The guy shot himself in the leg. I don't think you could take away a wr who a qb has been working with every day, then expect him to mesh well with the rest of the receivers. It's no secret he relied on burress heavily. One would think his reliance on one receiver would be a drawback. I agree with that theory. But now he has a core of receivers with length and/or speed. People seem to forget what Smith does for us and what the other receivers did or can do. I think Manningham will be a standout this year.
Exactly. You can't just take away a dynamic, lengthy #1 receiver who was the starting QB's go-to-guy for the past couple of seasons MIDSEASON and not expect a drop-off there after. It's very difficult to change the philosophy of the offense midseason with a week of practice in between games. We've had a year to re-think the offense knowing Plaxico is gone, and I think you'll see a differently conceived offense and much better production from the top WRs than anyone is expecting. Steve Smith is vastly underrated by everyone who doesn't watch the Giants every Sunday.
I, for one, am very excited to see who's going to step up and turn heads out of Nicks, Manningham, Moss, and Barden. And don't forget Beckum, who I think will add a lot to the offense in that H-Back, Chris Cooley type role. One of these guys is going to burst on the scene this season. With a solid group at every other position and a stacked defense, I think my G-Men will be just fine this season.
I'm very happy we got this done with Eli. He definitely deserves it. 35 guaranteed? Can't complain with that when you look at what other starting QBs are getting. Nice job, Jerry.

there's going to be scenarios this year when teams will stop the run, and force Eli to throw the ball..
If you have a top 5 defense, top 5 running game, top 5 offensive line, top 5 coach, and top 10 QB (all of which the Giants have) you don't need a superstar receiver. The Eagles continuously reached the NFC Championship game for all those years with bums at WR. The Giants WRs aren't necessarily bums either, they're just in the first 1-3 years in the league. Smith is a good receiver, Hixon is a nice long threat, and Nicks is going to be a beast, and Kevin Boss is very reliable. The Giants WR corps is no worse than the Eagles or Skins right now.
I agree with everything but the bolded. The Skins have the best WR in the East and have pedigree receivers coming into their second year. The Eagles entire corps is coming into their own. Perhaps the Giants WRs will eventually be on par with those teams, and they're probably not too far off in the future, but that claim isn't accurate
As much as I would love to agree with you since I'm a diehard Skins fan, S. Moss isn't a #1 anymore. He needs one of those 2nd year receivers to step up or he's not going to put up any numbers. Also the Skins aren't doing anything this year unless their O-Line can protect JC. Doubt that happens. My comment about Eli being a bum was just busting Giants fans chops. I think he's a good QB, goofy as hell but, he's still good. I don't think he's a top QB though. There are lots of players I would rather have as my starting QB than him. I would love to see how JC would do on the Giants w/ Plax anyway just out of curiousity

Jerry Reese for prez.
I think Smith will get reps on the outside and inside when we go 3 wide. I also think Nicks will be something great, and soon. He just has that "it" factor. He doesnt blaze by you or overpower you, but he catches the ball and get YAC.
And our D is the best in the league. I really hope Boley comes back from his injury/suspension strong, cause he'd be our first cover lb since Jesse Armstead. And that would be huge for the Cooley's and Wittens of the world.
Edit: dont even get me started on kenny phillips. He's gonna be the next great Miami S.

don't know how campbell would do but for all the knocks people give on eli you cannot, and i repeat CANNOT take these 3 things away that he does well
1. stays in the pocket and doesn't get scared when a defender is in his way, he throws the ball and takes the hit like a man ... although sometimes that leads to an interception.
2. great in-game clock management qb
3. he comes up big in crunch time.

Re: OT: Giants extend Manning
lets all laugh
romo - 6 year, 67.4 mill/30 mill guaranteed
roethlisberger - 8 year, 102 mill/33 mill guaranteed(so i was wrong)
manning - 6 year, 97.5 mill/35 mill guaranteed
ryan - 6 year, 66 mill/35 mill guaranteed
stafford - 6 year, 72 mill/42 mill guaranteed
so stafford has more mill guaranteed than a qb with a sb ring, a qb with 2 sb rings, and a very good qb.
there needs to be a rookie cap.

Re: OT: Giants extend Manning
Plaxico inflated Eli's stats.
The only time Eli truly impressed me was that SB drive when he fought off that tackle before throwing to Tyree. That was one of the very few times he actually grew balls and fought off a tackle and kept playing. But last season, he went back to being soft. No Plax to bail him out by being 6 inches taller than the DBs covering him.
I want us to get Mike Vick, no joke. Let him battle Eli for the starting position and force Eli to toughen up.

BTW, congrats to Eli...well deserved, and only about 40% of the Contract is guaranteed for a young Franchise QB that got us a ring before his 4th Season in the League (playing less than 50% his 1st Year).
