Make Cash a participant. I'll make sure his first round opponent advances!

Just to clarify, when I said I was in, I did mean I wanted to be a participant, not a judge.

Gotcha.

RTM, would you mind being a participant? I think 6 judges is enough. (To be honest, I feel worse asking someone to be a judge, because I know how much fun I'm depriving them of if they were participating! )

Anyway, an hour and change to go, in case there are any stragglers...

That's 6 judges and 23 participants. I would like to keep the same format as I had the last time I led a tournament. You will be judged on a scale of 1 to 10 in 3 categories:

ORIGINALITY - Have we seen this trade 1,000 times before on the T&T board?
FEASIBILITY - Does the trade meet CBA and roster requirements?
EFFECTIVENESS - Is the trade worthwhile for all teams involved?

Each judge will give their scoring, as well as a brief summary of why they chose their score, and I will compile each participant's average score. In each round, the higher average score will advance, until we have a champion! Simple enough?

Our preliminary round (which should be assigned by tomorrow morning) will take the best 16 participants, and the bracket tournament will begin from there. Judges, don't be shy to request making an assignment, as there will be plenty to do! klomp44, I hope your offer still stands.

I'm not sure if I have glossed over something, but feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding this process (tip: scroll through my previous posts in this thread, to see if the question has already been answered).

OK, good night everyone, and happy trading!

OK, no real news here regarding the rules but I have some questions.

1. Will the 3 criteria be judged totally independently or will they somehow correlate as seen before? I mean if someone screws the effectiveness of his trade he seems to get lower points for the other 2 criteria as well. The score is more probable to look something like 4-5-4 even if it is a totally new idea which would warrant a higher originality score. I've never seen some extreme scores like 9-5-0 for trades that were completely new but completely ineffective...
I may be overreacting to some previous judgments here, but I wanted to clear this before the tournament.

2. Is it the participants' or the judges' task to check the trades' feasibility under the CBA? I think it would be a lot easier for the judges if this was done by the participants, thus making the whole tournament a bit smoother and faster... What do you think?

I would just like to say in response to sammydavis' 2nd question, I think it should be the responsibility of the participant to make sure the trade works under the CBA. There is enough info out there between stuff like RealGM's trade checker, BSPN's trade machine, shamsports.com(gigidity), storytellers, hoopshype, google and Larry Coon's page to make it your responsibility. The judges should also check to make sure, but you should either have your trade disqualified or be heavily penalized and have to come up with a quick fix if it doesn't work under the CBA.

I don't know about the other judges, but your entire trade is in the tank if the trade doesn't work under the CBA. I believe last time I judged one someone tried to trade a newly extended BYC Calderon for Nash (back when Calderon was OMGZ A/T ratio!!!) and I believe all the judges opted to DQ the person.

For my money I'm using a little latitude on the feasibility. Otherwise we're handing out tens if it's "possible" and 0s if it's not. No gray area. And if the trade isn't original I will still be moderately generous in the other fields if it's at least a good trade; however, if the trade isn't effective (that is to say it's not making a team better or putting them in a better position) that's going to hurt both of those categories. I don't care if your trade is original if it's making teams worse.

I have to pull out now guys, I wont be online the next couple of days due to having an Frisbee tournament on out of town.

That makes it an even 22.

Once again sorry.

How about if the trade is feasible, but it can not be completed until X date. This will apply to all newly acquired players etc.

For your question, that's too technical. I will let the guy running it make the call there.

And you're right. I remember you doing it now.

No sweat, I appreciate you informing us now. Good luck.

As with any decision, my fellow judges can override me if they so choose, but I would prefer those contracts not be used in trades. Let's just use players who could be traded TODAY.

I will have the preliminary round up very shortly. I would have made time this morning, but it got hectic around here...
