the response shouldnt get old when it's all that needs to be said. And we've consistantly been competitive, and before last year made the playoffs 13 straight times....

and let me know when you can beat anyone.

A team spending $130 million on payroll that won't even stay above .500... is that a new record?

Talk about an epic squander of resources.... when is the last time the Yankees came even close to being under .500? You'd have to go back 17 or so years..

of course you are at least going to be competitive with the amount of money you shell out every year...but watching your overpaid team choke it up to lesser teams the last decade has been comical.

except half of that payroll is on the disabled list...the combined payroll of the players that are currently on the roster for the mets is 50-60 mill or so...

Choke it up to lesser teams? The red sox and the angels have been the two of the top 5 teams in baseball over the past few years...

wow, this post is (Please Use More Appropriate Word) in so many ways...

over value our prospects? Holt and Mejia are two of the top pitching prospects in baseball...what the hell do you know? ask any scout around baseball. This coming from a fan of the Yankees, who have been notorious for overvaluing their prospects, is pretty comical..

everybody gets injuries? sure they do...but not at the severity the mets have been hit with this year..name me any team that has been hit with this many injuries to their top guys at this longevity...yeah that's what I thought.

no way, the mets have no good prospects. Their top prospects did nothing in the bigs.

people like this is why i hate met fans. The never are humble, they act like they achieved something when they really did nothing and they hate on the yanks for not having recent success in the playoffs but choke every year and not even make the playoffs. And dont even use the salary excuse you guys have been among the top every year.

This year has looked so much like 1987 it's ridiculous..

Now it's snowballed closer to '93 and '03 with the biggest differences being the age of the core players and the farm system.

The '93 core had plenty of has beens and the farm was built around 5 tool athletes like Al Shirley, Preston Wilson, Jeromy Burnitz and Butch Huskey (actually pretty fast early on) that were far from sure things... This was way before the Moneyball philosophy...

In '03 the core was also past their prime and the Alomar deal sucked the farm of any talent (Newest picks notwithstanding) so things looked much worse.

This current team has 4 1/2 top players in their prime (Beltran is the half) and the farm is better than the previous 2 eras. As much as I like the upsides of Urbina, Flores, Mejia, Martinez and Holt they are far from being substantial additions with F-Mart and Holt the closest.

Bigger issue is what becomes of the money coming off the books after the season with rumors they'd like to maintain that lowered payroll and possibly lower it even more..

If that's the case they MUST

A- Tell Selig to STFU and take the BPA in the draft and pay what the Yankees, RedSox, Tigers and others do as they laugh at that senile old man..

B- If Minaya is still around he has to stop worrying about his image and take a more aggressive approach on the International market. He's petrified a kid turns out to be older than originally thought and has gone after the Pena's and Urbina's knowing their true age with them being sons of former major leaguers.

If you cut payroll and don't spend on the draft and IFA's you're begging to become the Kansas City Royals..Begging..

Hopefully Fred gets drunk with Mark Cuban and sells him the team...

Oh stop....

The Yanks won 89 games LAST YEAR with Sidney Ponson and Darrell F-Ing Rasner in the rotation for the majority of the year. Dan Giese also got some starts in between. Best part of this was this was done in the toughest division in all of baseball last year that featured FOUR 85+ winning ballclubs.

Add that Damon, A-Rod, Posada, Matsui, Wang, Joba, Giambi, Hughes, Kennedy all either had season ending injuries or were put on the DL last year and you had an 89 win team that finished 3rd in a division..........

My problem with you guys this year is that in such a year like this, you are hardly playing the young guys from the minor leagues outside of F-Mart, Niese, and Murphy. You are instead playing these cast away players like Cory Sullivan, Omir Santos, Alex Cora, and Gary Sheffield that really have no business of being on a team's roster as of this minute. I mean how can Sullivan or even Sheffield get more starts at LF than Nick Evans, one of your top rated guys in the farm?!?! How does that make sense?

Yanks this year used Gardner, Cervelli, Coke, Aceves, Melancon, Robertson, Pena who all came from the minors in 2008 or 2009 and each of the aforementioned contributed big time to the 2009 Yankees. Mets havent really done any of this and it is sad to watch since it gives no hope to their fans.

Most of our top prospects are in aa and lower, thats why you don't see them. Thole, Holt and maybe Davis should be up next month.

I agree epsecially since they dont overslot and MInaya sucks at the draft anyway taking 4th round talent [Reese Havens] in the 1st round last year accroding to scouts

So if your gonna be conservative in the draft plus suck at it then you have to go hard internationally

OK, ok.. it was ME.

In '07 the Marlins knocked the Mets out of the playoffs in the final weekend... then in '08 the Marlins knocked the Mets out of the playoffs in the final weekend.

Unfortunately.. Selig got mad and now there's no Mets/Marlins final weekend series... SO... I had to resort to witchcraft.

Boy is it great to wake-up and go to sleep to MLB Standings!! Feels great to be in the hunt. Right Yankee fans?
