marc gasol wasn't filler. he had zero salary, how could he have been filler?

grizzlies explicitly wanted marc gasol included, thats not filler. they requested marc and sun yue, and settled for just marc.

I didn't mean filler to match salaries. Filler like someone added to bring more to the package.

Didn't they pass on him though in the draft 2nd round? I could be wrong. It would make sence to that they knew. I knew he was gonna be good which means I must have read it somewhere.

That's not filler, then. Aaron McKie was filler. Marc Gasol was arguably the best player in the Spanish League at the time, somebody a lot of us Laker fans were excited to get a look at. That's a legitimate prospect who the Grizzlies were right to demand.

I thought the topic was did we get better or worse and not did we get Gasol for nothing. I'm pretty sure there was another thread about getting Gasol for nothing last week on the general board.

So, do you think Morrison will get better than last season? Do you think it is possible for him to get minutes even if he improves? or do you think his value is all about his expiring big contract: $5,257,228

To answer the question, no one knows.

Ariza was brilliant in the playoffs and came up with clutch plays on both ends of the court. With Artest we have no idea what we'll really get. We know we'll have a tougher team and a guy that do a better job against bigger SF's such as Pierce and LeBron, but beyond that we don't know what he'll bring. Is he going to start jacking up stupid shots during important stretches of the game and shoot us out them? That's a legit concern. He did it a ton of times with the Rockets and quite frankly I was waiting for him to do it again when we played the Rockets in the playoffs -- recalling how he single-handedly lost them a game against us in the regular season.

There's no question that he's a better player than Ariza and has the ability to create for himself and others, but no one here can say for certainty if the team gets better.

Marc wrote:When Lakers traded for Pau, Marc was just a filler. Later, he proved to be decent but it was far from being a lock. And Memphis ended up using the cap space in crap like Randolph, LOL.

But Lakers fans should not get angry if other people think they got a championship because of some trades (obviously, it is more than that).

A championship is a championship no matter what, LOL.

FALSE - Read the quotes from the Grizz following the trade:
- Marc Gasol is the best player right now in Spain - and that included Rudy Fernandez. He'd
- Gasol would be a top 10 pick if he was in the 2008 draft
- It's like getting 4 1st rounders (Marc, Critt, plus 08/10)

Marc G was not filler. Pulling the Sixers scout/shooting coach out of retirement was true filler!!

And btw, the reason so many teams passed on him in the draft was because he was under contract in Spain and overweight (which was solved rather quickly in the fall of 2007 with the Olympics on the horizon and Marc not wanting to be left out).
