Henninger - Yesterday, the Los Angeles Lakers released their official 2009-10 schedule. Now I know what you're thinking, early August is waaaaay too soon for a season preview.
I beg to differ.
The Lakers have pretty much every piece in place for the upcoming season, so we know what the defending champs will be like. True, there are a few key free agents still out there that could change the makeup of the Lakers' opponents, but most teams have their nuclei in place already.
So let's go through the Lakers season, game by game, complete with postgame headlines. I have broken it down into months, and I'll publish a new one each week. Here we go with the Lakers preview for October/November 2009:
Oct. 27 vs. LA Clippers: Lakers spoil Griffin's coming out party on opening night
Lakers win. Despite Blake Griffin's 32 point, 16 rebound performance, the Lakers still handily defeat the L.A. Clippers. Baron Davis breaks his own record for fastest season-ending injury by tearing his hamstring while vying for position on the opening tip.
Oct. 30 vs. Dallas Mavericks: Kobe hits game-winner as Lakers defeat Mavs in OT
Lakers win. Jason Kidd and company give the Lakers all they can handle, but Kobe goes for 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, including a game winning jumper over the outstretched arm of Shawn Marion. Bad-boy owner Mark Cuban is fined and suspended indefinitely for attempting to take out Kobe's legs during the post-game celebration.
