No, the full $14 mil stays in the salary total but the buyout amount is deducted from the taxable total

HoopsHype.com says $64,844,007 with Clark and Pavlo included in (and BWallace's $10m)

Waive Pavlo and his salary of $4.95 mil becomes $1.5 mil.
$64, 844,007 less the difference of $3.45 mil is 64,499,007
Lux threshold is $69.9mil

Looks like we're under, but over the cap. Now, how that works, I still don't have a handle on ...

Oh, and there are rumblings that the tax may be raised to $2 for every dollar over ...

^ $64,844,007 - $3,450,000 = $61,394,007

You subtracted $345,000 instead of $3,450,000...

What I was told yesterday was the new buy out amount is what is counted towards our cap (10 mil), and that also counts on the lux tax as well.... also from the CBA board...............

Hmm... I was under the impression that Wallace's contract DID still count against the lux tax. I thought the idea was that we saved $4 million by buying him out, but that was really $8 million in savings because of the tax.

I'm all for it being Johnny V's version though, but if we would wind up that far under the cap after buying out Pavlovic... well I don't know why we wouldn't have been at least a small player in the FA market.

I mean, by that logic (only having $61m on payroll) Sarver could have used all of his exemptions and still been under the luxury tax.

The way it was explained to me yesterday was that the buy out amount of 10 mil counts towards the sal cap and the lux tax, not the 14 mil. That does make for an 8 mil savings on the cap and tax.
We are not under the lux tax as of right now, all the numbers that have been stated here do NOT include nash's 13 mil this year, hoopshype's number does not have it included so we are still pretty far above the tax line, $64,844,007 is what hoopshype is showing right now, add nash's 13 mil and we are over 77 mil, so even with cutting pavs we would still be around 73.3 mil or so, still above the tax line, and that's with 14 players on the roster. Now I thought that the 10 mil did not count on the lux tax but they tell me it does, So in my honest opinion, if we make a trade (S&T) it will probably have to be for us sending out 2 players (pavs and ? ) for one, hopefully a big, but outside of that, the only real logical move would be to waive pavs because you know we usually never carry more than 13 on the roster............

RealSunsFan... I gotta believe you are correct about the tax....

cause you know, if we were comfortably under it...Sarver would have wanted a GD ticker tape parade and Kerr-plunk would have been able to take off the knee pads.

Ben Wallace being bought out for 10 mil. 4 mil in savings, another 4 from luxury tax. If Sasha Pavlovic is waived that is another 3.5 mil saved, and another 3.5 in luxury tax. Shaq was making 21 mil this upcoming season, Ben Wallace and Sasha were making 19 mil total, that is another 2 mil saved, and another 2 mil in luxury tax. All in all, the Suns (Robert Sarver) saved a whopping 19 mil from trading Shaq!! But don't worry it'll all be wort it after this season because the Suns have the 50th-60th Draft Pick. And this upcoming draft will be loaded with talent (JK).
But yes, the Suns are still over the luxury tax threshold.

Back to free agency. Ronald Murray is definitely looking for another home, Szczberiak isn't getting an offer from Cleveland, as well as Joe Smith. Joe Smith wants to go to a "contender".

Just an update on Petro who played yesterday vs Italy on EuroBasket Additional Qualifying Round. Well...I can't say he played great^^, french fans are really pissed with him. Only 7 mins on the court and really nothing to see except he looked very slow on his legs, was out-rebounded by italians and did a stupid traveling. 2pts (1/2fg) , 1rbd, 1to and 3 fouls. That's bad, France was fortunate to have Diaw, Flo Pietrus and Turiaf inside and also a tremendous Batum to help them winning after overtime.

In fact, french staff called Mahinmi to help them vs Finland this saturday.

Right - the $14 counts toward the salary cap but only $10 mil, the actual payout figure is added in for the tax. So it returns $8 mil.
What is weird about all this is that we have a soft cap, with attendant exceptions and loopholes, and a gulf between the salary cap and the lux point.
Apologies if I misstated it, or made anyone's head explode

And finally, yes, $13 mil to Nash puts us at $74m, which is roughly $5mil over the tax line. We buy out Pavs and that knocks $3.5 off the bill, which as we all know is $7 total for that contract.
Then our tax bill is down to ... $1.5 mil unless we add someone in theprocess of cutting Pavs loose, or afterwards.

Screw all this stuff - let's ball.

Thanks to our colleague for working out that $19mil number re: Shaq.
